Mid drive and cadence upper limit (top end).

Where did you find this spec.? Just curious. Thanks, Court J.

Mid drive and cadence upper limit (top end).

??????? You can program the controller to do just about anything you want. As I recall...from memory the upper (speed) limit is 99, can't remember if it's KPH or MPH, but either way you'll be moving right along. Perhaps I'm not pedaling at 120 RPM (cadence) but I regularly go well over 100...

    Help me plan a build..

A good hub motor and battery will eat 1/2 your budget. For the bike, find any used bike that works, or buy something like this from Bikes Direct. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/fuji/fuji-sunfire-3.htm Good luck, Court J.

    NuVinci Hub

Can this system be purchased as an add on to existing installations? My research led me to believe this product was only available to OEM's. I can't say how old the 3 units I bought are there's no manufacturing date on the box or the unit. The one I haven't installed in a wheel is serial...

    NuVinci Hub

Yes, that is a plus. Handling power is a possible issue. Mine is on a 500W 36V mid-drive and so far it has worked flawlessly, but I would probably not put it in a 750W 48V system. Court J.

    NuVinci Hub

You're in for an interesting experience. I have one observation and a minor complaint about the N360. When you ride a NuVinci installed hub you have to re calibrate your thinking about setting a "gear" for each riding circumstance....because there aren't any reproducible gear ratios, only...

48v or 52v battery for current BBSHD builds

That's changing. I'm a good example. Living in a hilly region in New Hampshire and over my prime bicycling years, riding a bike for pleasure or exercise, began putting tremendous strain on my body, particularly knees. So I did give up my pedal bike for ebiking and it has made a substantial...

    Obsolescence

Stick with DIY, the parts are easily accessible and not specific to the bike. The BH Emotion Neo's are a great example. The Carbon I have needs a new battery pack and I cringe thinking of the replacement cost. On any of my DIY builds if the battery I'm using is no longer available, just swap...

    PAS on hills

You are correct. When climbing a hill the most important factor is keeping the motor running at a high RPM. Select the gear used to keep your cadence fairly constant during the climb and use whatever PAS level you want. If......and it's a big IF! you cannot keep the cadence at a high enough...

    Pre-Builts with mid-drives comparable to a BBSHD

Hands down the best system for commuting over hilly terrain. I've had The BBS series now for 4 years and the MAC 8T for 3 years and there's no comparison when you hit a long fairly steep grade, hands down BBS. On the flat they're equal. The enormous advantage for the mid-drive is the ability...

planning a mid-drive Rockhopper ebike conversion, advice?

No, it's the best option. I've done many mid-drive conversions using 48V 750W BBS02. For a battery I'd use the Luna Shark 52V. Court J.

    Broken spokes

If you are going to build a new wheel from scratch I'd advise buying a complete set of new spokes and nipples. I would not reuse spokes or nipples taken from a wheel that has been used....just my opinion. Another bit of advice, if you intend on building a wheel, read a couple of articles on...

    Broken spokes

That's a very good practice. I don't think many riders look at the wheel assembly as a regular maintenance item, even though they should. Court J.

    Broken spokes

Just my 2 cents. When you have that many broken spokes on a wheel there may be multiple issues. My first observation; since this isn't a radial build why are all the spoke heads pointing out? In a conventional cross build the heads would alternate. Is the drilling pattern on the rim designed...

Feeling the need for speed? How about 80 mph on an ebike?

That is pretty cool. Not sure I would do the speed but I can relate to the recumbent trike build. After doing conversions of existing frames it became boring and routine. Building custom trike frames and designing spindle and steering geometries that provide a stable accurate tracking trikes...

48v or 52v battery for current BBSHD builds

True. But far more people buy inexpensive bikes at mass merchandisers. For bikes to become more then a novelty they must be appealing to a large segment of the population. Perhaps that will happen, only time will tell. Court J.

48v or 52v battery for current BBSHD builds

Too much debate about which bike or system is better. I have the BH bikes, MAC conversion, and the various mid-drives. With the notable exception of the difference between hub and mid-drive the argument seems to be very nuanced. Everyone has their preference. My opinion, if you can afford it...
