    The Experience of a Bicycle

It’s not always all about you. That extra speed that you claim to “need” is about want, not need. Your profanity doesn’t carry the weight that you seem to think it does. Profanity is the effort of a feeble mind to express itself forcibly. You repeatedly show that to be true. You seem to...

    The Experience of a Bicycle

Sometimes, an e-bike is not a good solution or fit. It sounds like you need something more substantial.

    The Experience of a Bicycle

It’s not just about your safety. The classes also protect those that you might mow down at 25 with your throttle. I don’t see anything idiotic about the classes. They seem to make a lot of sense. I suppose that if you don’t like a law that you can call it idiotic, but that doesn’t make it...

    The Experience of a Bicycle

My point was that an e-motorbike with superfluous pedals trying to take advantage of the laws and privileges that are there for actual legal e-bikes is wrong. Your needs as a disabled person don’t require an e-bike that is outside the legal classes. I equate the argument to an able person...

    The Experience of a Bicycle

Actually, at some point it is a motor vehicle that’s pretending to be an ebike, probably so that it can take advantage of the privileges afforded to ebikes.

    The Experience of a Bicycle

I’m right there with you. My Cross Core has everything that I am looking for. It handles and feels like a bike with assistance. I think that was the original design intent.

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

I find it, I’ll say, “interesting” that people that are ebike “enthusiasts” try so hard to make their ebikes so un-bikelike. I understand that a cargo bike weighs more and requires more power, but commuter or recreational ebikes that are not street legal because of wattage or speed or that...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Our colors have gone, and all that we are left with is a Black Shadow, (I'm not complaining, one of my all time favorites).

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Your data is missing a key component. Unlike a Tesla, or other EV, this is an “e-bike”. It’s supposed to have two motors, (one electric and the other more or less human). The human benefits from the gears. If it is missing the human component all together, then it is an e-motorbike.

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

I understand that the motor does not use the gears, but if it is equipped with a torque sensor, the output from the motor is dependent on the output of the rider. If you want to ride efficiently, then you use the gears. How would a torque sensor sense torque without chain, (the cranks would be...

Are mid drives just naturally less zippy than hub motors?

Yes, the hub motor powers the wheel directly, but the torque sensor would apply assistance based on the torque furnished by the rider, (or do I misunderstand something here?, which is completely possible). If that is correct, then the assist system should have the same feel as a mid drive. I...

    Gen3 Ebikes....Gone!

You take your chances I guess. I went with Yamaha because of quality, warranty and because they are a very long established company, (and because it was what I was looking for at a reasonable price). A bargain isn’t always a bargain.

Riding Clothes - In Praise of Clown Suits

Probably 20 years ago, I was riding a charity century. It was early July, warm, humid and pouring rain. Like nearly every other participant, I headed out wearing my Gore Tex shell. By the time that I reached the first SAG, I was l nearly as wet as I would have been if I had left it off, so...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Alpacas and a lone Emu, (no Doug). A beautiful fall day, (mid 60s, light wind). Mount Ascutney in the background. Stayed on the New Hampshire side today.

Riding Clothes - In Praise of Clown Suits

Sorry for remaining off topic, but I have to share this. I saw quite a few of these in the Czech Republic. Easy to restore and dangerous to drive, but pretty cool. Fabric covered tubular steel ”car” with a 250cc or 350cc Jawa motorcycle sticking out the back end. This would probably be an...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

The leaf-peapers have gone away for a while. We are between tourist seasons, (foliage and ski), but the riding is still pleasant and safer with less cars. As usual, I had turned the GoPro off right before a nice White Tail Doe crossed the path in front of me. This video is nothing special...

So ugly that it’s cute. Citroën = lemon. I hate that I want one, but not for driving on the autobahn.

    Pre-/Post-Ride routine?

Everyone needs to do what works for them. Post ride, I stretch and inspect the bike, (mostly tires and brakes along with a visual once over and a check of the battery level). My post ride stretch takes about five minutes. I would rather find a problem post ride and address it then, than find...

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Another beautiful fall day. The colors have faded and most of the leaves have fallen, but that reveals what was hidden from view. This road must have been named before e-bikes.
