Cassette Replacement, Or You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks :)

I work on replacing first chain about 3000km ie 0.75 stretch and maybe one or two of small cogs on cassette. Run 2nd chain and complete drivetrain into ground until it gives trouble ie >4000kms. Then replace everything, cassette, chain, chainring, idlers. If you spend lot of time on flat in...

Using a Thule EasyFold rack with a swing away attachment

I would be worried about swing arm exrension carrying extra weight of ebikes. Even through its not extended there are still few extra pivot points in between hitch and rack which could fail it not design for extra stresses when travelling. This maybe why Thule discontinued these.

Using a Thule EasyFold rack with a swing away attachment

Easyfold drops down for access to SUV or wagon trunk. Not sure how it would interact with pickup tailgate. Why not ask shop to test it before you buy. Make sure you inner bike on rack.

Schwalbe Johnny Watts (and other Schwalbe SUV tyres) User Club

The Geman online sites aren't shipping Schwalbe to NZ anymore, only happened in last year. Same for Shimano a few years ago, luckily Aliexpress don't care about parallel importing rules. Otherwise my drivetrain would cost lot more to maintain.

    Torque upgrade on Active Line

If I did it again which ever is cheaper with dongle. Next time x3 dongle with 25kmhr or x2 with 32kmhr version as need to do about 55kmh to mix it with traffic. Bosch 25kmh cutout is more like 23kmh when measured against gps. Most of time on cycleways or side of road doing <40kmhr with short...

    Gazelle Ultimate C380+ Rear Tire

The other benefit is new rear tire has more tread so more protection. Lot easier to repair front puncture than rear. Had good runout from Big Bens 5000kms between two bikes then 3 flats in couple weeks, one was faulty tube small leak at stem. So far Jonny Watts have been excellent but only if...

Turbo Vado SL with Rohloff mod? New 1.2 motor?

    Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Motorbikes have had integrated gearsboxes for over 100 years, is about time ebikes did same. This is future of ebikes and will be my next upgrade in few years. Wont be sad see back of chain maintenance.

    Torque upgrade on Active Line

When Bosch CX2 25kmhr motor failed just out of warranty wouldn't replace it with 32kmh version even though there is no speed restrictions on ebikes here. Thank goodness for dongles.

Turbo Vado 5.0: What tire pressure do you run?

If not worried about max battery range 35-40 is good place to start. Has enough give for city surfaces. Maybe bit lower for rail trails again if not worried about range. Low 20s for offroad. High 40s for max range.

Can someone explain to me e-bike maintenance

Only issue is degreaser can drip onto motor bearings and seals. That is why I remove chain to do it. Could wrap a bit of cloth around shaft between motor and chainring to protect motor from drips.

    Chain Lubing?

How often lube is applied depends on lube and weather. There are two types of lube wet (oil) and dry (wax). The dry goes on as running liquid which evaporates leaving wax coating. For dry dusting conditions dry lube is brilliant, chain only needs wipe down very lube to stay clean. Do need to...

    Handlebar carry bag advice

I've bought few of these from Aliexpress and used them on my MTBs to carry spare tube tools and small pump. They don't work for Stepthroughs as there is no top tube, hence handlebar bag on my earlier post.

Do you regret buying (or not buying) Step-thru vs. Step-over frame?

Bought stepthrough as that is all they had in my size at time. No regrets, wouldn't hesitate to buy another. In regards to dropper posts unfortunately it means forgoing suspension seat post. There are droppers with suspension but last time I looked couldn't source one.

    Gazelle T9 chain drop

This happens occasionally on my Performance Line motor. Typically quick shifting in turbo when taking off from lights. I think it is motor overrunning slightly and derailleur can't keep up. Mines 11spd with clutch and doesn't make any difference. Using Sports at lights and slowing shifts down...
