Mahle ebikemotion X35 no power to motor

Hi...I'm probably not supposed to multiple-post (?), but just put this in a related thread (https://forums.electricbikereview.com/threads/gain-d40-no-power.34513/): my Gain F40 has been great for about 4 years (albeit needing a freehub replacement and some spoke strengthening a while back), but...

    Gain D40 - No power

Hi - just posting on a slightly old thread here as my Gain F40 has been great for about 4 years (albeit needing a freehub replacement and some spoke strengthening a while back), but literally last night the power to the wheels just stopped. Morning commute fine, evening commute nothing...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Yes! I heard exactly that! Of course I had no idea what it was until I got help from electricity....

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Yes. it makes absolute sense that if you put a heavy weight in the middle of a spoked wheel, and one which is then delivering force to that wheel, you're gonna put more strain on those spokes. That's just physics. I'm sure that manifests itself in all sorts of ways, from loosening to breaking...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Yes I can see why you'd go for either those spokeless type wheels or a pedal drive. However one very strong reason I bought the Orbea was because it basically looks like a normal bike - in fact, unless you catch sight of the hub at a certain angle, you can't really tell it's electric at all...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

That's a very good point - I've had my non-electric Specialised for well over 10 years and it has never, ever needed any attention paid to its spokes. In fact I wasn't even aware they were a 'thing' until I got my electric bike.

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Well I did indeed by some spoke tightening tools. Haven’t use them or checked the spokes much tho TBH!

    UK supplier for better spokes?

You have the edge on my Yako - abilitiy to fix such things yourself! As Vitabrick reveals above, quite a lot involved here! It's also bad on Orbea TBH to have mass produced a bike with such an obvious design flaw. I'm amazed that, for an otherwise very good and well constructed bike, they got...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Thank you Vitabrick - think it’s fair to say my LBS found my solution for me. Only one 18 mile commute so far but the wheel seems more solid. No idea what kind of spokes were used! Not sure if you can ascertain from the pics.

    UK supplier for better spokes?

HI folks. No idea if anyone is still following this/that bothered, but I stuck with my LBS in the end and gave them time - it's not their fault deliveries worldwide are completely messed up, after all. They did a wonderful job and I my backwheel now looks like the attached images. No idea what...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Isn’t that more of an effect of disc brakes rather than hydraulics? With hydraulics you can actually squeeze them more gently - like car brakes - and control the amount of stopping power. But with discs if you jam them on hard - whether hydraulic or not - the bike will react harshly. I guess.

    UK supplier for better spokes?

I've actually had a response now from these guys: https://www.electricbikesales.co.uk/ They say they can rebuilt the wheel with Sapim Double-Butted spokes - will take 2 weeks and cost £130-£150. Will need wheel to be posted to their wheelbuilding place in York. Sounds reasonable, but again -...

    UK supplier for better spokes?

I had not thought of that and yes, my Orbea not only has disc brakes but hydraulic ones - both systems new to me. No doubt adds to the problem.

Thanks - and where do you get yours from?

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Sorry I am perhaps misrepresenting the problem to all you helpful folk. I think the problem is: 1) I need extra strong spokes 2) I need these to be non-standard length due to the size of motor hub It is being both non-standard and extra-strong spokes that seems to be in short supply....

It’s the ‘someone in London’ I am trying to find!

    UK supplier for better spokes?

um...ok....thanks. Not quite sure where that leaves me.....do I need to get DT Swiss spokes from somewhere? I've no idea where to start, let alone how then to fit them....

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Thanks....I *think* I understood most of that reply....! Sounds like I need someone to build me whatever a 680 is, with triple butted Sapim spokes, a Swiss hub, and rims made for an ebike.... Now, if only I knew someone who could do that, and - crucially - had the appropriate spokes in stock.....

    UK supplier for better spokes?

Thanks - but my LBS builds wheels and is 1 mile away. That's where my problem started - he cannot get the spokes. He's been waiting over a month for them to be shipped from somewhere.
