If I hadn't been home sick a lithium ion battery would have burned my house down

I knew about the fire, but never gave cause a thought. Were batteries to blame?

If I hadn't been home sick a lithium ion battery would have burned my house down

Metal trashcan with a lid works but takes up a lot of space. I'm gonna look at Harbor Freight for something cheap that is closer to the size needed.

Speed linked to PAS level, reviews requests

Yes, your basic assumption is correct. Each level of assist boosts speed by 1.5-2.5mph at a given effort and cadence (peddling speed). So level 1 tends to boost my cruising speed from 12.5 to 14-15mph and so on. But there's a lot of overlap in that if you pedal hard you get more assist...

If I hadn't been home sick a lithium ion battery would have burned my house down

So I've gotten pretty comfortable with LiFePO4 (the "safe" lithium ion) batteries and don't think a lot about them anymore. Well today, a single 18650 cell rolled off a shelf where I keep them and my dog got it. She took it under my bed and gave it a chomp. It shows slight flattening on 2...

This should be a game changer for battery costs

I'm right at 50 mile range with my 400ah battery. Peddling all the time.

    Different Bar for Hybrid

Oh yeh. I put them on all my bikes. Helps find that 'just right' spot. But usually in combo with different bars it seems.

    Am I a hypocrite?

Nope, disagree for sure. Been riding motorcycles all my life and still do. E bikes are different and throttles belong on motorcycles. JMO, and not because I don't like them, but because of the perception of the general public at large. Total disagreement on a throttle making a rider more...

First Flat on my Fat Tire :( What is best?

I could fix the flat 10 times before the repair guy shows up. You gonna sit there for an hour or a .5 hour waiting for someone to do the 5 minute job?

First Flat on my Fat Tire :( What is best?

BS on patched tubes being temporary. Many many thousands of miles on patched tubes. Some with 3 or 4 patches. Carry a new tube or patched tube and use that when you flat. Take the damaged tube home to repair at your leisure where you'll take the time to do a good job. It's a simple thing, but...

    BH WIreless Bluetooth Issue

Ok that display is different than my 15 Big Bud Pro. Is the display and base really one unit? On the older one the base powers the display and the base is what usually breaks (read 4 or 5 accounts of it in the very limited EM threads) while the display can still be fine. I replaced the base...

First ebike for DIYer, advice on hill climbing, mid-drive or hub??

Sounds nice! You know enough to know what you want and need. I will throw out that I paid $1790 for my 2015 Haibike FS RX full suspension mtb. Rockshox Reba fork, Fox shock, Bosch mid drive, DT Swiss rims, etc. It was a demo and had 14 miles on it. Shipping was about $200. It's amazing...

    BH WIreless Bluetooth Issue

Display or the base that it sits on? My base broke after the bike slid down the wall a few inches. Poor placement/design of the display cradle, breaks WAY too easily.

First ebike for DIYer, advice on hill climbing, mid-drive or hub??

Yes, you're on the right track with all your thinking I'd say. Since you ride a regular bike and presumably understand how to shift to the gear you need BEFORE hitting the hill then you'll have no problem. You shift when the load on the chain is light, THEN accelerate. A geared hub motor may...

Not a problem. The steering stiffens some, but not to a problem degree.

    Rear Hub Motor Noise Problem

Freewheels are problematic under the best of circumstances. The ones I've seen all seem much cheaper (made) than cassettes. if that's chinese freewheel on a chinese hub I'm not surprised at 1,500 They tend to "lock" onto the hub as well. Be careful removing.

    Disabling speed restriction

LOL, no prob. No stand on formality here. But no, I'm afraid I can't help as Ive never seen any advertised. The only ones I've seen derestricted to "open" are Bafangs. If I was looking for such an item, I'd probably start with the vendors that sells de-restrictors for 20 into 28mph and see...
