Cannot allow my hobby to burn down my home

My solution to my e-bike battery thermal runaway paranoia was to modify a welders toolbox by lining all 6 sides of it, inside with 1" of fortified and reinforced concrete. It is directly vented with a 3/4" black iron insulated vent pipe to the outside. The area immediately around this charging...

    Battery fires?

@ tomjasz If I do ever get a thermal runaway situation, all that explosive potential is going to make that 3/4" black vent pipe to the outside sing like a flame thrower. Because it is difficult to know how many cells may fire off at one time, I am unsure when charging a battery whether to latch...

    Battery fires?

My partner has become worried about all of the reported e bike battery fires. Perhaps too much time has been spent on u tube videos of these occurrences. so because most of the solutions to these fire issues have simply failed in any independent tests and I also like to charge my batteries off...

    Waterproofing my connections

I have had some problems using dielectric grease for water proofing on a Rad rover e-bike motor connecter where the grease partially isolated the electrical pins from their connections.

The latest hub motor replacement cores

Just an update concerning my Area 13 750W motor core swap for my 500W Rad Power. I had a complaint about not noticing much of a power increase and later discovered that my use of dialectric grease on the connection between my motor and the controller may have caused some insulation limitation...

The latest hub motor replacement cores

Here is a photo of the 750W motor core that I received from Area 13. It looks substantially different from the advertising photo of the core that I ordered or to Kyles video comparisons of the true 750W Bafang core compared to the Rad power's cores. I don't doubt that this core will fit, just...

The latest hub motor replacement cores

I've purchased most of my Rad Rover parts (like the 35Amp controller upgrade) through Bolten's before they became Area 13. I went through them because of their video comparisons between the smaller Rad version of the hub motor, the true Bafang versions and Bolton's stated preferences for the...

The latest hub motor replacement cores

After sitting on the sidelines about upgrading my 2020 Radrover step thru from a 500W hub motor to a 750W, and watching many of the videos favorably comparing Bafangs full cased "true" 750 W hub motor core over Radpower's original 750 W motor cores, I ordered a replacement from one of the...

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

I had the same problem with a Canadian 2020 RR step thru with the Bolton controller upgrade. Changing my C5 from 2 to 5 helped. I probably would have gone to a higher setting if I had your 750W motor instead of Rad's stock 500w motor.

    Rad Rover bottom bracket greasing

Thanks. That's a pretty complete video but quite the ask for a twice a year bike servicing.

    Rad Rover bottom bracket greasing

This seems pretty bizarre to me! Considering Rads official recommendation for their bottom bracket to be cleaned and greased every 6 months, I find it odd that with all of the Rad service videos out there, I can't find one of them that mentions or covers the apparent service requirement that Rad...

Just another Rad rover devotee from Vancouver Island, Canada

The is a lot of debate of whether specific motors are actually swapped in and out for each counties limitation requirements or if the easier to swap controller is changed. With the wide range of watt measurement allowances on motors, it has been suggested that an OEM controller swap is the more...

Just another Rad rover devotee from Vancouver Island, Canada

14 ah stock battery with Rad Rover. I'm 195lbs and get about 60kms of relatively flat trail riding when sticking in a powermode of 2 so you can expect a significant drop on that with Boltons modification. I am in Victoria.

Just another Rad rover devotee from Vancouver Island, Canada

No problem (when it finally arrives) but I bet there are other folks out there who have already taken u-tube videos of themselves installing the Bolton kits on the Rad Rover that might show you the info you seek. What kind of distance are you getting on the Rize?

List your experience with Tannus Armour

The Juggernaught 26" x 4" is a pretty aggressive, loud and comparatively stiff tire with a recommended tire pressure of 20 PSI. The Tannus system reduces my PSI requirement on those tires by 1/2 to about 10 PSI while still providing the same lateral cornering support I used to have with the...

    What was this bear doing?

My partner & I were once storm stayed on a kayaking trip for days on a small Northern beach with a mother bear and her cub. All parties agreed to just pretend there was no one else on that beach. It all worked out well. In another more memorable time in Haida territory, my head that was pushing...

List your experience with Tannus Armour

I have only had the Tannus Armour on for a couple of days but I am sold for how much quieter and smooth my ride now is. It's like I've added a whole new level of suspension. I have a 2020 Rad rover step thru with 26"x 4" Juggernaught fat tires and although I usually ride in one of the lower...

    What was this bear doing?

Exactly! We used to frequently see bears along that same trail and spent a lot of time sharing camping space with them while kayaking on the North Pacific Coast. That was just a bear giving notice that he was tired of having to keep moving out of his front yard because oblivious pack animals...

    Bolts to hold on kickstand

My new rad rover step through arrived a month ago with a loose kick stand from a stripped bolt. I assume it was over tightened at the factory. I just replaced it with a stainless steel M6 bolt that was a 1/4 " longer and put a locking nut on it with some locktight.

Radrover Controller & Display Upgrade Kit

I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will soon pipe in but if you've set the C5 and C12 to Boltons settings of (2) and (4) respectively, isn't that controller supposed to be shutting down the battery to protect the circuity if the demand that your placing on it exceeds those safety...
