Happy 4th Year Anniversary to my ol' Vado SL4!

Also I should add, if you are horrified with all the changes I deemed necessary, it's really a case of horses for courses. If I lived somewhere dry and flat I wouldn't have needed to change the drive train and probably would have kept it pretty close to original. Though I'm pretty sure if I...

DJI vs Bosch vs Pinion: Unbelievable Difference!!

Yeah exactly. I read about this on the Electrek blog (below) and they point out: There were 155 reported e-bike fires in the UK last year. Estimates put the total number of electric bicycles in the UK at between 500,000 to 1,000,000. In the same year, there were a reported 19,256 car fires out...

DJI vs Bosch vs Pinion: Unbelievable Difference!!

Did you see that eBay U.K. is banning private ebike sales from end of month? They’ve been tight lipped to the reasons why so people are guessing either because of ebike battery fires, or because of so many illegal Ebikes being sold & connections to ebikes used in crime. Could be a combination of...

DJI vs Bosch vs Pinion: Unbelievable Difference!!

What’s been more important (I think) about the DJI entry is their lightweight battery tech. 800wh battery and that powerful motor and full sus for around 44lbs. Even if that quoted weight is for the 600wh battery (it’s unclear) it’s still very light. Granted it’s a carbon fibre frame but those...

Happy 4th Year Anniversary to my ol' Vado SL4!

Only realised yesterday it's exactly 4 years since I purchased my trusty Vado SL4 from the Bicycle Chain shop an hour up the M5 in Taunton and very good they've been too. I've been recovering from a flu bug that wiped me out but got out for a short ride yesterday (in between massive rain...

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Ha! Good point. Bike naming culture is always a head scratcher. Why start at SL4 and not SL1? Most brands seem to love long numerical names. Cube is a nightmare, so many variations of each model. I liked it back when Specialized were mostly known for the Rockhopper and the Stumpjumper - and in...

    I bought a Grizl:ON CF 9, AMA

I was replying to this, above, from Jack: I will say Specialized makes a perfect bike, no issues of any kind with this or my similar Levo. The Creo 1 had the common TCU failure, but that was quickly resolved a my LBS. For the record my TCU failed twice, replaced each time promptly by Specialized.

    I bought a Grizl:ON CF 9, AMA

Yes I had increased noise so before my warranty ended I took my Vado SL 4 back to the bike shop. They compared the noise to a new SL and agreed it was much louder. They diagnosed wear and advised Specialized to replace the motor which they did in under a week. Great bike shop - Bicycle Chain...

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Incidentally until I watched the EBR review of this new SL2 bike after having watched the Electric Bike Report review, i didn’t realise our new overlords are the same people as Electric Bike Report! Slow on the uptake I guess, but both reviews say exactly the same thing. Which feels weird...

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

We’ll only know the weight if/when Specialized releases an alloy version of this new SL2. Let’s see what components it’s equipped with. After all my Vado SL 4 without Future shock would be slightly lighter without the suspension of the SL 5. But that new slacker geo will be the same as the...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Yeah me two! I heard loads of rumours that they were pissed at Shimano for supplying Trek during the Covid shortages and so had switched lock stock to SRAM. Guess business is business. A good deal etc.

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Just looking at the bike now - U.K. Speccy site has the SL2 at £5,500 with FS 3.2 & weight 39.7lbs EQ. Which is similar to the Electric Bike Report test above that weighed it on the road at 41lbs. Big difference I’m seeing is what looks like a much slacker head tube & fork angle. Along with the...

    Amazing deals at Yamaha currently

Recent review of the special edition Moro - rates it highly. They love the quiet Yamaha PW-X3 motor and its low cadence power & smooth delivery. Also the chrome finish of the special edition is stirring some half forgotten Redline/Profile 80s BMX memories- never actually had a Redline or...

    Amazing deals at Yamaha currently

Wish they'd run this amazing deal in UK but nothing going. Much smaller sales here I think. Drawback of Yamaha only using existing motorbike dealers is they are not going to get footfall wandering in to check out ebikes in general, as opposed to somebody wandering into a normal bike shop with...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Running through the gears very good analogy! And wait for the high pitched squealing if you hit gradients above 15%. Which with me are also the much quieter roads so you get the full complaining whine with no cars to mask it! I’d love to test ride an SL 1.2 motor to check the quieter noise plus...

Changes planned for my new Yamaha YDX Moro 07

Well after that amazing deal you can afford these changes! With the saddle unless it's painfully uncomfortable I always give it a few months riding to see if my muscles get used to it before trying something else. Unless you have a well used favourite. But these all sound sensible upgrades.

EBR made me do it! (new Vado SL 5.0 EQ)

No expert but I suspect there is tolerance - after all you get riders of all shapes sizes and weights. Plus when cycling, different pressures and percentage of body weight resting on the bars fluctuates as you ride. A light bag with some coats snacks gloves keys phone what have you, probably...

    I bought a Grizl:ON CF 9, AMA

I'm getting used to the reach. I thought it was 10-15mm too long when I got the bike, but apparently I'm stretching out over time. If reach continues to be an issue it might be worth investing in drops with a rise. I have a pair of Surly Truck stop bars which have a rise of 30mm (coupled with...

    Advanced ebikes vs CREO 2

Hadn't heard of Advanced, yet another German bike company, there are so many. But looks like they've been around for 10 years and that 4 year motor & battery warranty is generous and 30 years for frame(!) is effectively lifetime so they are really standing over their carbon composite RECO! Good...
