NYC PSA E-bike Battery Fires 11/11/22 NBC News

I wouldn't seal the batteries up like that. You increase the heat and if there is a problem you now have another problem with a pressurized can of burning lithium. Lithium A) puts out oxygen causing more danger if sealed and B) doesn't require oxygen to burn so a sealed container won't choke...

Cold Weather Commuting and cold legs. BIking greaves?

If your throttle goes to "class 3 speeds" it sounds like it is jailbroke. But in the cold I will do the opposite, I will turn the boost down a couple clicks and pedal harder to warm up first before increasing the boost/speed/wind for the rest of the ride.

Cold Weather Commuting and cold legs. BIking greaves?

The Rain Legs solved that problem and using my regular winter coat with enough layers took care of the rest. I also have a balaclava like think called a "head sock" that does the job too and fits under my helmet even. I used to motor cycle but gave it up a long time ago.

Riding Mid Drive on only highest gear

You have no facts or arguments just insults. Sure my personal experience is only 2 brands of Class 3 bikes and 2 years of commuting and running TURBO the entire way at whatever cadence I feel like at the moment. For this question I have also looked at other forums and experiences and even...

what are you calling stress? using the bike more will wear it out sooner but that's a different issue than the OP worrying about burning out the motor. Any e-bike is already stressing the drivetrain and wearing things out quicker. Which is why more bikes are going to belts and IGH.

Prove me wrong. I have a Bosch performance line level 3. Are people burning these up for pedaling too slow? Is this happening on any other major brand bikes? Specialized?

Riding Mid Drive on only highest gear

That may be true for that Bafang motor but I haven't seen anything to suggest it is true for all bikes. I stand by my original statement that the better designed bikes today you can just ride them how you want to.

Do you regret buying (or not buying) Step-thru vs. Step-over frame?

I considered a step-thru or mid Gazelle but if I ever want to upgrade to an external extra battery only the step-over models can be upgraded. Also they only had the step-over in my size at the LBS so that settled it.

Riding Mid Drive on only highest gear

Just for fun I thought I would see where the hot spots are on my bike. I almost always ride in TURBO mode while commuting and I keep a medium/low cadence. It was about 0C this morning so nothing it getting too hot. The only real surprize was not seeing any heat transfer to the frame. I...

"Peanut buttering" is for nylon gears of early Bafang motors and mostly people overpowering them? Peak was in relation to the assist setting and not a battery spec which is why I was challenging it. I am not trying to be difficult but if the advice is based on someone hearing about someone...

Riding Mid Drive on only highest gear

THe OP was about low RPM, not high RPM which in a ICE has different problems than overheating. Who says peak is just for a burst? Class 1/3 mid drives are designed to provide assistance. Properly designed they shouldn't be able to heat up enough to damage themselves and or they have over...

Riding Mid Drive on only highest gear

Mostly, yes. Most of my miles are commuting a straight road with very minor hills. Unless I want the extra exercise I usually ride in Bosch TURBO mode between 20 and 25 MPH and the gear at or near the highest (Enviolo gear hub is continuously variable so I don't know if it always at the...

Just ride and don't worry. A properly designed bike will be fine. Has anyone actually had a mid drive motor melt?

What’s causing all the ebike and escooter battery fires?

I don't expect the bike frame to be air tight so no explosion.

Cold Weather Commuting and cold legs. BIking greaves?

To complete this thread, I ordered the rainlegs from clevercycles. They are pretty much exactly what I wanted in my head. They are made in China but good materials and construction. I got the fully reflective ones. This morning it was 27F degrees (about -3C) so I thought I would try them out...

I yeeted my AXA cafe lock

Yeh it didn't fit my use case. I really didn't like that you had to have the key inserted to ride the bike and then you always had to take the key with you. It is the same key that removes the battery.

    Round Plugs? Really?

Yes, I do 40-80 charge at least when I remember to unplug it. Most days it is a 10-12 miles commute so the use is predictable.

    Round Plugs? Really?

As others have pointed out you just turn it until it magnet magic happens. Not a big deal and MUCH easier that trying to use a Bosch plug.

Just this past weekend I ripped the plastic shell off it and threw the metal bits into the bucket to recycle. No going back now.
