Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

I'm sorry, George. I'm really lost here. There is no Chinese middle market of Ebikes. There's just cheap. That's why they sell so many. Everything else is solely made for Western economies. China has always produced emulations of high technology. Currie has access to it. Why would they...

2014 Specialized Turbo vs 2014 Stromer ST1 Platinum

NYCE wheels did a comparison of the last generation: https://www.nycewheels.com I agree with it. Stromer probably has the last gen unless you're an actual cyclist. Looks like the next gen Turbo wins, though not by much. However, Stromer definitely still has something up it's sleeve... I...

    Are ebikes dangerous?

Not everyone likes ebikes. :( In China, they're actually known as the "silent killer" because no one hears one before it hits you. They've started outlawing them in certain cities there. NYC has passed it's second law banning ebikes from city streets. Ebikes have found a "grey area" in the...

    Steel (Metal) Vs Carbon

Here's a guy that builds steel frames locally that completely disproves the notion that steel has to be heavy: www.silentcycles.com. So awesome. Carbon is sweet, but be aware that it flexes and batteries don't. So integrated batteries with carbon frames can be a little squeaky.

Are Americans savvy enough to discern the difference between high-tech and low-tech electric bikes?

Larry, let me just say that I tried the Path+ last week and that bike feels like a high tech ride for a very low price. Nice work. You know this stuff way better than me, but here's my take on it. It seems that most of the innovation we've seen in the past has derived from European designs...

    Changing Gears?

If it's really something you're concerned about, just adopt a faster ride cadence as you should a normal bike. That should keep a your cassette nice and healthy.

    Changing Gears?

Yeah. That's a good question. If you're really hitting it with something like a BH or Dash, then yeah, it can damage the teeth. I've done a good bit of damage to my cassettes in the past. But quite frankly, who cares? It's fun to ride hard and freewheels and cassettes aren't too expensive...

    The best thing about e-bikes...

Hey everyone, I'm giving a presentation about ebikes on Thursday night at our city outdoors center. I was wondering if there any unique facts or stories about ebikes that you think I should share, especially to people that are new to them. Cheers. -Chandlee

Local Dealer vs. A Great Deal

Ravi! No worries, man! I wasn't referring to your post, and I didn't even want to get into the specifics at all. As for you knowing more than the sales/tech guys, I would probably just go in and do a test ride if I were you. I pride myself in knowing more about the bikes than the company...

Local Dealer vs. A Great Deal

Hey Oilerlord, I hope that wasn't the only thing you took from my post. That guy simply didn't want to pay taxes on his Prodeco, so he purchased on Amazon. We match prices, but we obviously don't help people evade taxes. We're still friends with him and we're clearly not going to turn down...

Local Dealer vs. A Great Deal

Hey everybody, Okay, so I’m going to be pretty biased on this one for obvious reasons. But this is a big issue, and there are some things y’all should take into account. First of all, ebikes currently account for a .01% of all bike sales in America. That statistic alone should scare the hell...

Specialized Turbo vs Haibike Super Race

Hey @Larry Pizzi! Any demos coming through the southeast anytime soon? It's the first bike that I've had a road cyclist park outside and walk in to ask about.

36 volt vs 48 volt electric bike batteries

LOL, @FitzChivalry. Yeah, lovely deceptive bike that one. It was always hilarious when someone wanted to see the "fastest bike we've got" and I would take them to the city commuter. I tended to spend a much longer time prepping people for that bike than the others. It's great.
