    e-not-bikes

This project is nearing completion, too. Battery arrived yesterday, and fits really nicely into that case. I'd hoped the case would accommodate the motor controller, too, but alas. So the new plan is to mount the motor controller in a typical controller box on the downtube above the battery...

    Help Needed with Bafang BBS02

At 30v your battery is mostly discharged. At full charge it should be at 42v. Maybe it's a charger issue? https://greatebike.eu/everything-about-e-bike-batteries "A typical 36V e-bike needs a battery that delivers power between 30V and 42V. A 36V pack at 42V is 100% charged and holds as much...

1st e-bike conversion, talk me up, or talk me down!

Finished, for now... Here's how she sits with her new wheelset and Sturmey Archer RS-RK3: And here's the Sturmey in its natural habitat: Getting the shift cable properly adjusted was really frustrating until I realized that I'd reinstalled the shifter arm on the wheel incorrectly when...

    BBSHD installation position.

I've got a downtube, but the BBSHD doesn't quite touch it when using the stock motor mount. I found it had loosened up after the first 50 miles and a nice crash, so I torqued everything down again and have seen no movement at all for the next 25 mi. I may go with a sturdier bracket down the...

Mounting Speed Sensor or Wide Stays?

I run 27.5x3.0 tires, and find that I have to move the speed sensor out of the way when mounting the rear wheel, then adjust it once everything is locked down. The sensor telescopes a little to facilitate getting close enough to the magnet.

    e-not-bikes

First test on battery is an unqualified success! 52v is no problem, and it's alarmingly quick.

    e-not-bikes

A couple of progress photos. Rear (front) hub motor installed: Was going to use a locking steel cash box to hold the battery and motor controller, but found this scooter bag designed to hang from the bars and in front of the head tube that's a perfect fit, and should have enough space...

First build, need help and advise......

I'm not sure the 'last for days at slow speeds' requirement is realistic unless you've got a way to recharge during the day. A really expensive, really high capacity battery on flat ground at minimum assist on a very small hub motor might get you 100 miles of range, or a little more. I've just...

    e-not-bikes

It's coming along nicely! 26" front wheel with a Schwalbe Rapid Rob 2.1" and the Bafang 500w front hub motor in a 20" wheel arrived last week, and the Vee Tires Flow 20x2.4 fits nicely in the rear. Slapped on some discs and mounted the wheels, and it's now an acoustic with a very heavy rear...

    Choosing a rear hub kit

A 40 mph ebike is going to require either a very high powered direct drive hub motor, or a mid-drive and the right gear ratio. My BBSHD 1000w mid-drive in a single-speed setup (46t stock Bafang chainring, 18T sprocket) tops out right around 27-30 mph. You might be able to improve on the top...

Electro Bike World upgrades for Rad Power Bikes

EBW battery arrived, and it's well built and charges to spec. Very pleased!

1st e-bike conversion, talk me up, or talk me down!

So of course it was raining this morning, so I drove in to the office. But then it looked nice about an hour ago, so I decided to run home and return by bike. All went well until I heard a clanging sound from the rear. Turns out the torque from the motor had caused the wheel to slip in the...

1st e-bike conversion, talk me up, or talk me down!

First ride last night in single-speed config, and I'm happy to report that riding an ebike is not boring and does not suck! Spent an hour shredding the neighborhood; the parking lot, paved bike trail, road, and the overgrown patch out back. Nothing fazed it (ok, lots of wet vegetation bogged...

    Choosing a rear hub kit

I really, really wanted to work with Grin, and I understand that they're swamped these days, but I was really, really disappointed that when they ultimately did reply they repeatedly ignored my clearly stated questions, and kept pretending that there's no such thing as a Bafang 48v 500w front...

1st e-bike conversion, talk me up, or talk me down!

The battery from Elecro Bike World is here! Looks really well built, and a perfect fit for my seat tube (although it will live in the bag for now). Got it on the charger, and need to install my chain and solder an XT-90s connector onto the motor leads, and we're off!

    Bafang 48v 500w front hub motor & 52v battery?

Wait, what? Just received a BBSHD last month, and my 52v battery arrives on Tuesday. Have I screwed up?

    Bafang 48v 500w front hub motor & 52v battery?

Yeah. Someday I'll pick up a new controller and overvolt the BBSHD, but adding heat to a hub motor is no bueno, and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't start a fire!

    Bafang 48v 500w front hub motor & 52v battery?

I figured as much, based on the BBSHD's compatibility with 52v, but wanted to make sure I didn't blow anything up. Thanks!

    Bafang 48v 500w front hub motor & 52v battery?

So the kickbike is here, and I've ordered up a Bafang 48v, 500w front motor kit (100mm dropout spacing) that should arrive in the next few weeks. So now I need to figure out what battery to use. As my 52v 14s6p pack for my mid-drive bike is arriving this week, and I've got a nice 52v smart...
