Review of Gazelle 380+ Mid step

Agreed! I have Novara* "folding basket" panniers on my (non-electric) Novara Fusion and I love them! Don't know if you can get anything like that from REI anymore though. *Novara is what REI used to brand their CoOp bikes.

Tern GSD/HSD: Do you load it into your car? How does it fit?

Hello all, I'm contemplating replacing my current Tern Node D7i with something electrified but also with some carrying capacity. I was looking at either the Tern GSD or HSD and was intrigued with the handlebars that can fold down for loading into the back of a van/SUV (I'm future proofing for...

California bill AB 117 to incentivize ebikes

Is there a link to an official state website or is it just the CalBike site?

Giant Cargo E-bike with 28mph motor

The Aventon commuters look nice, but it doesn’t look like they have any long tail cargo bikes. In any case, the nearest dealer to me is too far away at 50 miles of traffic choked freeways.

Giant Cargo E-bike with 28mph motor

I saw Court’s review of this bike the other day and I was impressed. I wish Court would do a review of the Yuba Spicy Curry AT. Does anyone have the AT? I am thinking of getting my first long tail cargo bike and it’s down to the Yuba and this bike. There’s not a huge price difference so it...

California bill AB 117 to incentivize ebikes

Thought I’d post an update since I didn’t see any updates on the bill in this thread. Since the legislative season is over, and I didn’t see or hear about anything like this, I looked up the bill. As of 8/26, it’s been held in committee. For those of you who are not familiar with the political...

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

I’m trying to get away from vehicle ownership. What I’m doing now is sticking my gear bag (which is about 5 ft long and 18” wide) in the back of my car. I was looking at how I can haul such a large bag on a bike. There were a lot of great suggestions hear but the one I’ve liked the most so...

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

That actually looks like something that would work out really well! I'll have to look at getting something like this once my shoulder is back in shape and I get my bike situation sorted. Thanks for the suggestion! PS - Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I actually thought I had until I checked...

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

I’ve been looking at these recently and they look really nice. However, I think I’ll reserve them for my planned mountain bike purchase. I’d love to try bikepacking some day and these types of trailers appear to be designed for that type of activity (that and cyclocross).

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

I have a similar problem. My bike has a hub motor (something I really should of thought of before getting it), so through axles are a no go for me. I am really concerned about the quality of the stays on my bike so I’d be a little worried about putting any kind of load on them. I had to have...

    I would appreciate that. Thanks!

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

Thanks! Unfortunately this is not my first rodeo. But this was the easiest it has popped out so I don't know what my doctor is going to say about that. I looked at some of the different bike trailers and it seems like they all connect at the axle which is problematic for e-bikes with rear hub...

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

Btw, I dislocated my shoulder the other day so I'll be out of cycling and martial arts for awhile anyway. I'll probably pick this research up again early next year. In any case, thanks for the great feedback!

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

Hello all! Thanks for the quick responses! @6zfshdb - I had considered a trailer but I was not sure how easy it would be to hook up to my Juiced CrossCurrent X. It would be the less expensive route but Juiced, so far, does not play nicely with non-proprietary accessories. I wasn't able to...

Cargo eBikes for long, somewhat bulky items

Hello, I’ve been thinking of getting a cargo e-bike to further limit my need for a car. However, there is still one use case that I have yet to figure out how to replace my car. I practice martial arts that includes weapons training. I keep my long weapons in a sort of long weapon bag, the...

    Full Suspension vs. Fat Tire

Hi! No, this is mostly for recreational off road/MTB stuff. Maybe bike packing too some day. I already have a commuter.

    Full Suspension vs. Fat Tire

Thanks for the great feedback Court! You and everyone here have given me great feedback. The consensus seems to be yes on full suspension regardless of the tire and fat tire depending on weight, intended use, etc. I weigh over 200 lbs so I’m thinking the following: FS fat tire: if I’m riding...

    E on a train.

I'm not sure how easy that would be. Amtrak's bike racks are the type where you stand the bike up and mount the front tire on a hook. I don't know if all Amtrak cars are like this, but the ones I've ridden have a moveable bar with a velcro tie for supporting your bike. I don't think it's...

    E on a train.

It looks like Amtrak's bike policy has a 50 lb weight limit. Some e-bikes might meet that limit but some might not (also not clear if removing the battery would make a difference). I've taken my regular bike (not an e-bike) on the Amtrak here in California. The train cars with bike racks...
