How to measure battery voltage with a good meter

Arrrgh! Ok, guys, you've finally got me to do it..... 48v. batteries turned on, the one suspected to be at 50% reads 46.9...right there. The one thought to be at 80%, still showing 4 of 5 bars on the bike...suprise! only 48.9, meaning it's about 62%. Interesting, this latter battery has been...

    2018 radcity 300M report

Note that the upright riding position, sought by many as comfortable, actually puts almost all the weight on the spine. A more forward position, curves the spine, opens the diaphragm and distributes the weight. This is very easily accomplished by experimenting with the adjustable stem.

Increase top speed on RadCity via Chainring/Freewheel upgrade

Yes! Look into IRD freewheels....much higher quality. http://www.interlocracing.com/cassettes-freewheels/classica-freewheels-567-speed Am currently running stock freewheel with 50t. chainring, pushing each gear down a notch and giving me a 92"top. May go to IRD13-32 come spring, with 1.5"tires...

Loud Bicycle Horn (Car Horn for Bicycles)

Your voice is the most immediately accessible device, and you CAN be heard if you want to be.

Grinding noise and motor engagement issue

My thoughts are that you were pedalling, and maybe the derailleur just had the chain in between gears...not to do with the hub at all....I hope. At worst, you could pedal w/o the motor. AAA will haul your bike, btw.

    Bike discussion for ME's

Another thought yesterday...somebody took the threaded screw and used it to produce tension, which is what makes the spoked wheel work...without that, it would fall apart. Brass is used because it acts like a lubricated fitting, even when dry.

What Width Tire is Considered Fat?

    Bike discussion for ME's

No shame in physics...? The bike was once described as the strongest of all vehicles in terms of capacity/weight. What interested me is just how screwed together it is.

    AAA

???? Where is it assumed that being part of the highway lobby is a negative thing? I'm a road rider, not a bikepath, trail rider. There's nothing sweeter than a smooth adphalt road.

    Bike discussion for ME's

Or those like me who are engineering oriented. Who do we thank for the bicycle? Given that we don't know who invented the wheel, after that, I'd propose Archimedes., inventor of the screw. I awoke this morning marvelling at the sheer number of threaded fasteners on a bicycle, starting with...

    Alternate Crank set and pedals

Ok, take a loose pedal, hold it against the crank arm, and simulate pedalling forward...let me know when it tightens. I will not hold my breath awaiting your sucess.

How many times have you heard "that's cheating!"? ?

I used the Amish not to illustrate the difference between fixed and multiple gears, but between e bikes and push bikes! Resistance to change is ok, but don't drive your gas guzzler and dis a Prius.

    Alternate Crank set and pedals

It can't tighten if the bearing is working. It can't tighten because it's the wrong direction.

    Alternate Crank set and pedals

So said I, until I was asked to visualize it, then the walls fell. Here proof in a more concrete form: Put your bike on its stand. Loosen either pedal with a wrench, and keep the wrench on the pedal. Now rotate the crank in reverse, pedalling backwards, letting the pedal and crank rotate, but...

How many times have you heard "that's cheating!"? ?

Never, but for opportunity. My response, if it happens... The Tour de France was single speed for decades, possibly fixed gear, even. Do you know what they called those who advocated for multiple gears? Cheaters. The Amish are still with us, but we can appreciate their simplicity without...

    Alternate Crank set and pedals

Well, we're certainly pedalling this one to the finish, myself more than anyone. Just did some follow-up research, and one of my long held assumptions has been punctured....woosh! Pedals do not self tighten, they self loosen. The original setup with the different threads was so if the pedal...

    Alternate Crank set and pedals

Yes, crank arms are shot...Since they're aluminum, they get the damage. I'd never trust a repair, if it's even possible...replace...they're cheap enough.
