Is there a similar loop in LA? Under 40-ish miles out in the middle of nowhere?

San Diego invitation to ride the Great Western Loop

If you’re used to these kinds of rides you‘ll be fine. After the first 30min, there is nothing but climbing for the next 90 minutes. It gets much easier after that. Many ascends and descends. Let us know how you do and let me know if you come down again later this year. We could join you guys!

San Diego invitation to ride the Great Western Loop

Oh wow, that is cool! Post pics!! The store is called the Lyons Valley Trading Post (17608 Lyons Valley Road) in Jamul, CA. It’s literally the only place to get water/snacks/bathroom on this 42 mile ride. We start and end the loop at the Starbucks located at 2512 Jamacha Road in El Cajon, CA...

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

    Wow, Nice information Stefan!!!!

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

Stefan, sorry I wasn’t clear. I meant that’s why Orbea, Pinarello, Bianchi, Colnago and Ribble want to support an EU company like Mahle (because they’re from the EU)

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

I believe this hub motor “ebike motion” made by MAHLE (from Germany) provides the motors to niche brands like Orbea, Pinarello, Bianchi, Colnago and Ribble. These brands are from Spain, Italy, Germany and the UK. Maybe these EU bike brands want to support a EU motor company??? Mahle’s...

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

I think the reason why is because their motor/battery manufacturers (Bosch, Yamaha, Brose and Shimano) don’t make hub drive motors for ebikes. So big bike brands can’t sell hub motored bicycles. I guess if the big brands decided to not use B, Y, B, S, then they could. But these brands are the...

Does Bosch, Brose and Shimano plan on making their own branded eBikes

I‘m new to the bicycle community. I’ve learned a couple of things (I think). The three biggest bicycle manufacturing companies (by revenue) are Giant, Trek and Merida. Giant not only makes the frames for themselves but also for Pinarello, Colnago and Canyon (to name a few). Trek manufactures...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

Stefan, how are you able to find out gradient on routes? I could use that info on my rides. A specific website? Or calculation? Oh wait, you mentioned Ride with GPS. I’ll look it up. Thanks for your thoughtful reply

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

Hi Nxharra, I’m from San Diego too! I see you made it to the top of Mr. Soledad. I’m curious did you have to put the Vado on the highest setting to climb Mt. Soledad? If yes, did the bike feel a little underpowered for that kind of ride? My friends want to do all 5 routes up and down Mt...

Trek Domane+ HP 7 vs Specialized Turbo Creo SL Carbon Comp

Alaskan, great insight! The IT guys need to step it up. It’s hard as it is trying to be an informed consumer. We don’t need bicycle brand websites (ie Trek and Specialized) not matching component brand websites (ie Bosch and Brose). Luckily, I haven’t found another bike brand website with wrong...

Trek Domane+ HP 7 vs Specialized Turbo Creo SL Carbon Comp

Markybolten, I just looked up the Domane+HP and the HP7 and it said the following. I know the new Performance Line Speed can assist up to 85nm of torque but the Trek website shows 75. Maybe Trek programs the motor with different specs? Bosch PowerTube 500 Bosch PowerTube 500 Controller...

Trek Domane+ HP 7 vs Specialized Turbo Creo SL Carbon Comp

I didn’t realize the 2021 Trek bikes were updated to the new Bosch motor offering 85nm of torque. That’s a nice upgrade . I didn’t know about the Cannondale “Lefty” GRAVEL bike, thanks for that tid bit. You are correct, E+Pro has 80. Enliven, I agree the Domane is better (especially with that...
