    Not doing this again

We drove the SUV up a one way single lane paved mountain road today to hike some. Didn’t think about riding there, might go up the mountain if I had a 6000 watt system. So at the top I decided to ride down the single lane paved road on the way out. I waited until several cars went down then...

    Rad Rover battery issue

Working on a battery is usually going to involve replacing some cells. How do you spot weld the new ones in? From prior experience with similar things it seems like I remember soldering does not work properly with that type of metal and inability to get the battery end hot enough for a proper...

    Choosing a rear hub kit

Even then, not enough rubber on the road by a long shot to get proper braking. Locked up and skidding takes longer to stop.

    Choosing a rear hub kit

A direct example of one of the reasons bikes have a hard time hitting high speeds without a down hill: A 86 BMW built in the days of fuel savings had a smaller engine. At 122mph the tach is setting around 4200 rpms. The max on this engine is around 5600. The car would not go any faster than 122...

Rad City Chainring advice to increase top speed! Help Please!

Cool! So you have the torque of a geared motor plus a good top speed. To put that on a City would require a new wheel too right? Due to thickness of the motor.

What's your plan for a flat tire 10 miles from home?

ty-rap is a brand of a cable tie.

Rad City Chainring advice to increase top speed! Help Please!

So the 4 teeth made quite a bit more difference than changing the tire size. Did you program in the effect of the tire size change or does it have enough choices. Use a gps app on your phone for accurate mph if you can safely look at it while going fast. I don’t think a Rad can go 28 on flat...

And you would have two less at the low end so you end up with the same amount. 😀

    Resale / secondhand e-bikes

They are not considering a well maintained Gary Fisher 29er to be a fair value to the seller. Age does not affect a bicycle like it does a car in the case where the bicycle is kept indoors. Cars are much more expensive to repair so age is important. Better keep your bike a long time because when...

    What determines low-speed ramp-up smoothness?

If you have a thumb or half turn throttle try a full turn throttle. That should spread out the power.

    Resale / secondhand e-bikes

Not sure about blue book for bicycles but the “books” for cars are a joke for well maintained cars that are older. I sold a 92 BMW for 3000 when the “book” said 600. It was stock with 240k miles in just good condition. Certain things just have value. The young guy that wanted it for 600 got mad...

    Resale Values of e-Bikes

We beat the system on 3 RVs over the years. Bought a used popup in near perfect shape for 4200, did about 18 trips in it and sold for 3500 after 4 years. Bought a new travel trailer for 17k and did about 45 trips in it and sold for 13k after 6 years. Bought a new boat for 52k and did lower than...

What's your plan for a flat tire 10 miles from home?

Tyraps, cutters and Allen wrenches are the most overlooked items in tool cases. You can secure a broken spoke with a tyrap but need the cutters to trim it off. I just remembered that we also carry a spare seat post clamp after one broke while putting a seat back on after hauling the bike.

What's your plan for a flat tire 10 miles from home?

Maybe someone will tell us how they ride with a flat because in a pinch I would sacrifice the tire to get somewhere.

What's your plan for a flat tire 10 miles from home?

#2. I usually carry a tool bag on the seat and a pump strapped on the rear carrier. Rear wheel would be worst case. Wire cutters to get tyrap off motor cable and possibly pull something out of the tire, 18mm wrench, Allen wrench for torque arm, tire irons, Spare tyraps, patches, tube. We have...

Rad City Chainring advice to increase top speed! Help Please!

Good idea, I think it’s just the 2020 City that needs a 46 tooth unless someone needs more help getting up hills then just leave it stock. Sounds like you are having a blast the way it is! I don’t want mine to go any faster due to the kids around here that ride their bikes on the wrong side of...

Rad City Chainring advice to increase top speed! Help Please!

Jim, you mentioned needing a lower gear when in PAS 4 and 5 up hills. You also mentioned needing a higher gear for down hills to maintain pedal resistance. I assume you have a 2020 City. You just need the 46 tooth front chain ring for the down hill problem. But this will also make it harder to...

    best battery use

The battery meter is just that, it’s more of a voltage meter. This is why it can noticeably dip when near the end of a bar and throttle is maxed out. The voltage drops under heavy load. It’s not a mileage meter. To make it a mileage meter they would have to incorporate some fancy software with...

    No power to motor

So the throttle switch is considered a safety device but using software to disable everything at PAS 0 would make more sense.
