People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

Hmm my ebike is limited to 24 kph, and that is still quite useful for transportation. I use it almost every day for about 40 minutes each way, and it takes me about the same amount of time it would to ride the subway. Don't get me wrong, I wish it could go faster, but it hardly becomes useless...

    Panasonic XM-1 owner in Tokyo

Well i know Panasonic was talking about renting them out, but I haven't heard any news about that. Some trails have similar bikes for rent. For example, smile Tokyo rents out the comparable Yamaha eBikes. I would be happy to loan mine if, but Hiroshima is quite far from Tokyo! As for...

People for Bikes: Progress on Ebike Laws in the US

It seems to me that there should be multiple product categories, so it's just a question of what we call them. Here in Japan, assist can only be provided until 24kph, and even then only at certian power ratios if you want it classified as a bike. This makes some sense because bikes are allowed...

    Panasonic XM-1 owner in Tokyo

The closest competitor I could find to the XM-D2 was a Ducati eBike that hasn't been released yet. That is a bit more expensive, but looks cooler, and probably has a more powerful motor. It would probably be difficult and expensive to import though, so I'll go with the XM-D2 myself. If the...

    Panasonic XM-1 owner in Tokyo

Hi, actually, I saw that discussion, which is why I phrased me entry as I did (differentiation of "electric bikes" vs. "eBikes", considered different beasts in Japan). Until recently, electric bikes in Japan basically came in one of the following varieties: #1 The typical "Mamachari" electric...

Hello from Tokyo. Here a lot of people have bikes and even electric bikes, but the sporty "eBike" is a recent phenomenon. I bought the first domestically produced eMountainBike.

    Panasonic XM-D2

FYI The specs list it as 250W, which makes sense, because that is what the XM-2 uses, and Panasonic said this is the same drive unit as the XM-2. (Also I believe there is a statutory restriction, though reading the law only indicates power ratio, rather than absolute limit). The official...

    Panasonic XM-D2

I am not sure why, Panasonic's site has all the info. Even if you don't read Japanese, Google does, and most of the info you want is probably specs, written in numbers anyway. What information are you looking for?
