What to check for when buying used...

You were right, it does tell you the health %. Btw, I had once a similar issue as described in the blog. A real mystery, as the diagnostic software seemed to point to a faulty motor; in the end it turned out to be a headlight cable short. The cable was torn because I had fallen earlier in...

@Frank Guard I asked my dealer the price for the MY13 power controller (the red switches) and he said it is 50€ or so, not that bad in my opinion (I had a problem which went away). Anyhow, the switch is easy to replace. Regarding the chain drop you can test it by riding on bumps and pedaling...

@Frank Guard Great that you were able to solve the problem. I cant believe you got a bike for 1k that cost over 6k a couple of years ago. Awesome deal. Why would you want to change for the joystick. I think the MY13 control is great in terms of ease of use. If you find the chain drop is an...

Also according to Specialized dying battery in the computer is usually the cause of pairing loss. I listened to my brakes today when it raining sleet; the front rotor makes a really loud train horn type of sound whereas the rear brake makes almost no sound at all. I dont know if this has...

@Frank Guard You could try changing the lithium backup cell (CR2032) in the "computer", costs maybe 2$. I think I had the same (losing pairing all the time) once and a battery replacement helped. Also make sure that the connection points are clean of corrosion or dirt. BTW, great price you got...

Concerning the 691 Wh battery compatibility here's the reply by Specialized customer service: "The Turbo SC Battery is compatible with your bike, this will allow you to use the Mission Control app and have Bluetooth connectivity." (Link Removed - No Longer Exists)the customer service message...

Another think to consider is the frame size. If you are very tall, an M or S is probably not a good choice. If you are around 6 feet, then L or even XL is ok. You asked about the brakes squealing; at least in my bike it is not that bad, but I have noticed that they do squeal when the discs are...

What to check for when buying used...

Oh yeah, also check that the bike support has not been limited to 25 km/h. That can be changed but it requires a dealer willing to do it. BTW, the MY13 has, in my opinion, a better power control switches than the new one. They are very convenient to use. Looks more stealthy as well. Also...

What to check for when buying used...

@Frank Guard I can check the current mileage, but is not correct because of the bug. I owned the bike for some 300 miles before I got the fix and I bought the bike as used (demo bike which the store owner also used) so I have no way of knowing the real miles but I am pretty confident it is not...

What to check for when buying used...

Come to think of it, the resetting could not be consistent otherwise the bike you are buying would be at zero. But I know there was resetting going on, but when it occurred, I dont know for sure. The software version 18 has the fix, but to my knowledge there is no way of checking the version...

What to check for when buying used...

@Frank Guard I just recalled. My Turbo had a software bug (in the battery). It caused the odometer and other meters to reset every time you turned off the bike. So that might explain the low mileage. There is a fix to it, but you need a dealer to do the installation. But in any case, if the...

What to check for when buying used...

@Frank Guard Being an owner of a MY13 Turbo I can say that is a good price, especially with such low mileage. I make a small correction to my earlier comments about the charge cycles and maintenance charging. You would probably not see many cycles even if the battery had been charged from time...

I am not as pessimistic about the battery. I think it would still be fine even if the maintenance charging was neglected somewhat. After all, it is only a couple of years old. But yeah, you should probably seek <50% of the new.

You can ask him if he has charged the battery regularly (like every three months min.) because obviously he hasn't been riding it. I think the odometer count is stored in the battery software so it probably is correct. Even if not, a bike that new cant have many miles on it. Maybe you can take a...

Do the dealers sell touchup paint for the Turbo's?

I had the same problem and the same reply from Specialized. The gear changer keeps hitting the top tube and has already left a dent in its paint. I also fell once and the break lever chipped the other side of the tube. I bought some hobby model paint which I thought was closest to the colour...

    Wife's new Turbo is home...

Ok, wouldn't know because mine never had one. But I still see a lot of bikes (normal) with mirrors so I guess some people think mirrors are useful.

    Frame size. Need help.

I am a little over 6' (probably 32" inseam) and riding an XL Turbo. No problems in my opinion. However, I got the XL because of a good deal when the only option for that price would have been a size M frame.

Who owns one of the first Turbos made?

I own a MY13 Turbo S with about 2k miles on it. I ride my bike pretty harshly in different kinds of terrain, rain, snow, leave it out in freezing temps, you name it. My seat broke, but I got a new one on warranty. Battery is still like new. Haven't even had to true the wheels, which on my normal...

    Turbo S and Winter Performance

I read from Battery University pages that charging a lion battery in temps below freezing is damaging to them. I am guessing that is why Regen is disabled in those temperatures. Not sure though why the Turbo mode would need disabling - possibly too fast discharge rate could be harmful as well...
