First build, need help and advise......

Ok that’s good to know. So in my case, I can get about an honest 30 miles per charge on one of my ebikes but that’s all city riding. So in the bush, you may be able to get a few days riding then.

First build, need help and advise......

There is so much to learn...you are asking the questions at the right place. I did two builds with front HUB geared motors, controllers, PAS assist and GRIN CycleAnalyst that took about 2 hours to get assembled. You may not reach your objectives of range ... just buy additional batteries...

Your guess? - The new Tern ???

So are these updated drive trains? I think the Vektrons are unchanged for this year. I was also hoping for upgraded Vektron with at least a Gates belt. You may want to consider the HSD S8i.

Your guess? - The new Tern ???

I like it but I still want a full folder with a belt drive. So much so, I ended up buying a Verge Si8 and Eclipse and converting them to electric. Well lets hope this sells well and keeps their cash flow up so they can continue to be innovative and provide the quality products that they do.

Electrified a Tern Eclipse 24" folder

OK kinda late to follow up here but the motor is fine. After disassembly, everything inside the Bafang 311 motor checked out. I think it was loose in the front fork and slightly twisted so stressed the inside bearings. Once I torqued down the front end bolts and seated the front wheel, the...

Your guess? - The new Tern ???

I see some of hints...suspension forks, kicks butt (so highest powered Bosch motor), belt drive, and a hammer smashing a light bulb I don't know. Maybe not electric?

Your guess? - The new Tern ???

I would like to see a belt drive Vektron with higher capacity payload. Full folder with Bosch performance motor, hydraulic brakes, state of art display with USB charging port, LED lights and front suspension. Thats it! Then only then money will leave my wallet.

    Stanley Park

OK thanks that is relatively good news because I would like to ride the seawall with my e-bike someday.

Beautiful shots...just wondering what are the rules for riding an electric bike around the seawall?

Belts are the BEST bicycle drivetrain - Test data

A couple of points. If you have a front HUB motor then the belt will last even longer. Not as much stress on the belt in this configuration. Also with the IGH, you can shift at any point in time. Up and down when completely stopped unlike the old fashioned derailleur. Oh I forgot with a...

    Bike Mirror

I have this same mirror. The only problem is it's a stainless steel material and scratches very easily. So I bought a replaceable stick on one and placed it inside. The view is even better.

Why do you prefer a derailleur vs IGH (Internally Geared Hub)?

Everyone seems for forget that the IGH can be shifted when the bike is stopped all the way from their top gear down to their lowest gear. A derailure system can't do this.

Electrified a Tern Eclipse 24" folder

Well so much for the reliability of the Bafang M311. Only 70 kms on this motor and its making a real racket so I think something has broke loose inside the motor. I don't think I over stressed it. It just started to get suddenly noisey during a short climb up a hill. I applied a short burst...

Electrified a Tern Eclipse 24" folder

It was also about $100 more expensive. Maybe you can let me know that advantages of the controller. The baserunner_Z9 was compact and could be programmed even for higher amp/volt batteries.

Electrified a Tern Eclipse 24" folder

OK now that I have had this for a couple of weeks here is my assessment. This is a much better riding e-bike than my 20" Tern Verge Si8. I guess its the 24" wheels that make the ride smoother and more stable. All things equal here because I used the same motor, battery voltage (36 v) and...

    Front or Rear hub motor??

Well I went back to the Bike Friday site and upon closer look at their designs it seems that the disc brakes are only available on the rear drive setup. This would be my choice. Unless they would be willing to add disc brakes.I would not buy an e-bike without disc brakes. Also ask them if...

    Front or Rear hub motor??

Yes it does but I like to get exercise as well so I never totally rely on the motor without peddling. The only other question I would have regarding the bike Friday is the range. I can get up to 40 miles with a 500 Wh battery. I think the bike Friday is a 300 Wh with their three pak of 100Wh...

    Front or Rear hub motor??

Both my bikes were built with parts from GRIN technologies and I found they were very helpful during my build process. I have the Bafang MG311 front hub motors and they are rated for 250 watts and are a standard wind. The wind is offered with this motor in three different...
