I love riding, and up until a few years ago, it was relaxing. But lately, I have had drivers and others point out my shortcomings. Yesterday, I was about 25 feet from an intersection when a truck stopped to let me cross. I said thank you through his open window, and he replied, "You're supposed to walk your bike across." If I had gotten to the crosswalk and then gotten off the bike, he would have had to wait even longer. There wasn't a sign about that anywhere, BTW. Sometimes dealing with these situations feels like a
ruleta personalizada, because you never know when someone will criticize you for something unexpected. The same thing happened a few months ago when my husband was at the crosswalk. I hadn't arrived yet but was close, and a car stopped for us to cross. The guy yelled, "You're supposed to push the crossing signal!" Last year, at a crosswalk on a newly paved bike trail, a woman yelled out her window, "That trail's not open yet." No, it wasn't officially open, but lots of people were there. Technically, we were trespassing along with everyone else, but is that so important to her? Is this the new age of policing the public by the public? There went my good mood and enjoyable ride. Lots of grumpy people out there.
