Watching the peloton - Professional Road Racing thread 2026

Big hit to UAE if Vine and Soler are out for the TdF. If, who will be Pogi's main helpers?
Especially Yates. Though if he recovers in time? Need an update on injuries. Horrible crash. Reminds me of that one in the Tour a few years ago in Brittany small lanes where a woman held out a cardboard sign for cameras and brought down half the peloton. Grand Tour crashes seem to be worse for some reason. Tense peloton maybe.

They need to ban and marshall those coloured flares. They are becoming a craze, are every climb now.

Wonder if police would have legal grounds to arrest on assault (directly to the lungs).

Meanwhile, I'd love to see nearby fans intervene. It's assault on them, too. I know, asking a lot of courage with all the crazies out there these days. But it'd sure be fun to watch the flare folks get what's coming to them on live TV.

Here's a fantasy for you: The Flare Response Unit launches a drone that drops a containment dome over the flare and its holder till the K9 unit gets there.

What happened to that woman? I think she got arrested at least. How stupid and self-centered can you get?

Remember the lady that grabbed Cav's bars in the middle of the final sprint?

So Yates made it to the finish after all, 14mins back- I'd last seen him on an ambulance stretcher/gurney side of road being seen to so assumed he was out. The fact his face was coated in blood from that gash behind his ear made it look like he was heading straight to hospital! But no he got back on the bike and finished the stage. Made of different stuff.

No news this morning if he'll start ok.

Yates officially out with a concussion - no surprise at all.

Jay Vine has had a rough season more crashes than finishes so far.

Bulgaria has some gorgeous scenery. Didn't realise the mountains are so tall & Alpine like, the snow covered Rila range rising up like a wall behind the peloton as they head towards Sophia. Straight forward sprint stage so far today, after yesterday's shenanigans.

Peloton just passed a couple on their wedding day with friends and family and photographers. They timed their kiss backs to the road (safely back from road) as the peloton passed behind them, lovely! Should be a (kinda mad) great wedding pic. Maybe slow shutter to create a nice blur rather then HD sharp 180 sweaty in pain faces all screwed up!!

Milan led it out, but hit his limit a bit early. Magnier swung off of his wheel, moving Groenewegen towards the barriers. Magnier started his bike push a bit earlier than Milan, and that was the difference.

In my experience, there are two types of sprinters. There's the big track style guys like Milan, and then there's shorter, thinner, lighter, road style guys like Magnier. Both can win consistently. Cav was great on the track as well as the road, and he was a little guy.

Aussie commentators on stream I was watching, (and ex Giro riders) pointing out that Milan's big body motion & style on the brick cobbles was making his bike hop all over the road whereas Magnier was more contained. Small margins, half a wheel. He's 22 and has arrived.
