Weird Giant e-bike intermittent start up issue

Hi all,

I have a weird problem on my 2022 Giant e+ explore and wondering if anyone can shed some light.

I purchased this bike in a very sad state that needed repairs. However one issue that still exists is turning it on.

I can only turn the bike on through the controller, if I plug the charger into the charging port (on the bike) and then unplug it again. I can then push and hold the on button on the controller and the bike turns on, and everything functions great and it rides well no problem.

As soon as you turn the bike off, it will not turn back on. Doesn't matter if I remove the battery and put it back on - the ONLY thing that will power it back up is plugging the charger into the bike charging port (literally for a few seconds) , removing it and then you get ONE time to turn on and that's it.

Can anyone shed some light? I was/am really looking forward to getting into the e-bike world!

Thanks

To add - I have checked all the wiring at the top (above battery inside frame) and see no anomalies or damage).

Haven't heard that one before! Do you have the smartphone app (RideControl)? If not, install it and use it to connect to the bike. There may be an update available.
Not sure that'll help, but it's worth a try.
Also, there are firmware updates for the Battery available, but that can only be done by a Giant dealer.

Thanks Dave. Yes I've connected to the ride control and given it all the updates. It's certainly an odd one.

Hmmm... sounds like maybe a BMS/battery thing then. I'd go to a Giant dealer and see if there's a firmware update for the battery, and see what happens with a spare battery of theirs.

Yip unfortunately that will have to be the next stop then. I'll report back with what it in...in case anyone else ever does have the issue.

I know it’s not exactly the same thing but, I had a Sony PSP that acted the same way. Except I couldn’t play after removing the charger. The PSP just powered off. Then I had to plug the charger back in and power on again. I replaced the battery and then all was well.

I hope the dealer can help you out.

Hope it's not a new battery! Current one says it has 99% health. That would be a shame.
