The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

Good point, a while back I intended to swap out my 40T front chain ring for 44T as I do spend a lot of time on the smallest cog. Sadly too late since I just changed my chain and would require adding another link. Oh well, next time! Just threw the 44T in my saddlebag along with my spare chain...

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

Finally got around to replacing my cassette. Went out for a test run and the frequent skipping is gone, clearly was an issue with the smallest cog. That said, I noticed it occasionally skipped just after shifting into the lowest cog during my test run. Could not replicate every time, but...

Thanks, since I already have a cassette on the way, I'll put the small cog on the old cassette to see if that solves the problem. Since the new cassette is only 20 bucks more it would probably be pennywise and pound foolish not to replace the whole cassette. Maybe next time my outer cog wears...

Well, tightening up the cassette didn't fix my issue, so I think I probably just needed a new cassette. Derailleur hanger angle looks good. The mechanic that came out to fix my broken spoke did adjust my b screw but I can't imagine that or barrel tension would be the issue since it's only...

Good to know, I guess I shouldn't have cheaped out going with the lowest price on eBay. Steep and cheap which is a reputable seller had it for a buck more than eBay but I didn't want to pay shipping so went the eBay route...

Thanks, I have a luna tool kit that came with one of my bikes. It has a whip and a cassette removal tool. Pretty sure it will work. Also have a torque wrench. Time to learn a new skill!

Yeah, my chain was a KMC x10e which I believe is the same as the current e10, they just renamed it. I wasn't sure if my chain checker was defective, just took really good care of my chain, or if it was the chain lube I was using but most likely it's just that these KMC e rated chains are the bomb!

I think I may just need to tighten up the cassette. When I got home I noticed the cogs were loose. I had a mobile mechanic come out last year to replace some broken spokes. He was quite the character. Let's just say he didn't like e-bikes, but none of the bike shops would work on my bike for...

Oh right, I meant outer (lowest) cog. It is a 10-Speed Shimano CS-HG500-10 and I think they only come in cassette. $30 on Amazon whereas my replacement chain was $40. I've never replaced a cassette before but seems pretty simple.

Well, after 4,000 miles I finally replaced my chain. There was no stretch according to my chain checker but what prompted me to change it was it got wedged underneath my chain guard after rolling the bike backward with the chain off the front ring l and couldn't get it out without bending it. I...

Yep. I know it's borderline unbelievable. I should post a video clip.

Same here. Still on original chain. No stretch after 3K miles. I keep thinking there's something wrong with my chain checker.

    Anti theft GPS

Sounds like you need one for you car! :) You could always get something like this for your car if installation is too much of a burden for you. Either way it would only be pennies a day to monitor.
