    Biking days are over.

At yesterday's oncology appointment, I received the news I has hoping I wouldn't hear quite so soon. I've had a slow growing cancer for 14 years now, one that's no longer slow growing. Seems to have morphed into some kind of much faster growing thing, and this sharply narrows the therapeutic...

Custom ebike build: Mid-Drive or Hub?

I suspect hub vs mid matters less than the quality of the components, maintenance etc. You carry a repair kit for chain breakage and flats? You've done each at your base? On the road is no time to learn! Be interesting to see what others think.

Charging Ebikes on EV Charging stations

Can you tone down the color and size? (default works fine, and is less likely to lead to blocking...) My eyes are smarting....

    Ebike Chain Lubes

Better than nothing, but you might have critters licking off any excess...

Anyone else go tubeless on their allant?

Cost? A few hundred invested into a bike that cost several thousand? And it's not as if you're spending that amount every few months... Personally, I find the stock setup is fine. I get plenty of speed, except going up 20% hills. In fact, I'd often like less speed going down the many long...

    Purion- battery bar doesn't change

What does your battery show after a ride? It would be helpful if you posted more details - what Bosch system? What bike? What battery? How old? Ride circumstances (elevation change, power level etc.?) Battery level measurement is a pretty simple technology - basically measuring the voltage...

Anything new for 2023 with Trek ebikes?

Just went to the Trek USA website. For us regular riders, doesn't seem to be much new? Did not look at mountain bikes. Bosch's new system seems to be MIA in the under $5K bikes, for example. Am I missing something?

PSA: Vendors must provide replacement parts for sale for e-bikes sold to customers in California, for 7 years

What's going on here? AFAIK, an ebike is not a "household electronic good". worse, as others have said, this is an OLD law. Why did the OP post it now?

My next e-bike needs to be more winter/hill friendly

Take a look at Evelo's offerings. A few here, including Alaskan, give them high marks, especially their top of line ones like Atlas and Omega. Personally, I avoid winter riding in my area because going down a heavily sanded steep hill is not my cup of tea. OTOH, some of the hills near my house...

Is lithium grease any good for hub bearings?

There are sealed bearings designed for side loads too. They're not tough to design.

Is lithium grease any good for hub bearings?

Yes, of course, but most hubs are now sealed bearings. BTW, I first had sealed hubs back in the 1970s when I built a set of analog wheels with phil wood hubs.

    Ebike Snow Plow

I have to put chains on my snowblower to get it to move into the snow we have here, and that's just to get a bite for the auger. Plowing? No way with that rig. But it sure looks cute! Edit: viewed the video in the link. He got it to plow 2-3 inches of snow. Why bother? And the headline...

    Ebike Chain Lubes

This discussion reminds me of auto fluids a few decades ago - marvel mystery oil or not? STP or not? and so forth. As others have said, what matters most is periodically removing grit from the drive train and using a lube, any lube (and a wear gauge...). We spend thousands on our bikes and...

Is lithium grease any good for hub bearings?

Interesting to see a hub that can be greased. My bikes all have sealed bearings.
