Gorgeous photos! Your rounded beach cobbles are a lot bigger than our fist-sized versions.
Well spotted! Now those are pretty interesting. As I'm not a geologist I just thought the council dumped them to prevent beach erosion. Then I saw an info board. Turns out these smooth rounded stones got...
But you're gonna have to explain the 6th one up with the pinwheel of sticks on a white knob and wall. No clue.
St Bridgid's cross. Find them all over Ireland. Used to hang above the kitchen doors. Woven out of straw or rushes every February. One of the old symbol's of Ireland along side the...
A collection of random pics from the annual 2 week family hols over the water back in Kerry. Among the daily swims and family catch ups I managed to get a fair amount of cycling done, exploring farm lanes, mountain roads and the like. Without the magic assist button the hills were hard! One 25...
I've only replaced pads, never had to bleed in the (coming up to) 5 years. But the pads wear out frequently on the steep hills. At first I was surprised at how quickly this occurred, but my local bike mechanic said that around here, everyone is constantly replacing brake pads. So that reassured...
At Rosslare ferry port about to head across Irish Sea to Pembroke Dock in Wales. A day early to avoid Floris. Been tracking it last few days. Calm now so right decision. Storm hits about 4am by which point we'll be safely back in Devon fingers crossed.
Saw the end of stage 2 it's on Irish TV so will catch the odd stage this week. Think it's 9 stages long. They are in the steep short hills of Brittany at the moment. The Spanish rider almost got caught but just kept away on that last brutal climb! Great victory.
Healy won the Super Competitive Award of the Tour ( to be honest I didn't know such a thing existed!) I'm very pleased for him. What a great tour and announcement of his talents. Didn't see the last stage but saw that Wout won & was also very pleased for him. Good tour. Plenty of talking points...
All three grand tours have 21 stages over 3 weeks. Giro d'italia in May, Pink jersey for GC leader - because the original sponsor in 1909 was Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport which is printed on pink paper. Likewise TdF was originally sponsored by L'Auto newspaper in 1904 (yeah I guess...
Agree with all that except Healy to Ineos. They are in a state of flux and might not survive or in this form. If they do & carry on as normal with same large budget they'll want a GC winner. Healy with a good team could be top 5 but he'll never be a pure mountain climber. I'd prefer him going to...
Knackered. See my post yesterday. Last mountain stage. Race wrapped up. Exhausted. Wet. Didn't feel like it. Which incidentally makes me wonder why Jonas didn't attack and attack and attack to see if he'd finally crack. Even dropping him today although wouldn't make up the time on him, it could...
Wet ending there. Roglic collapsed, only caught ending so didn't see if it was a crash. Onley fails to gain on Lipo. Shows why I'm not a DS thought he looked pale and worn out at finish yesterday but Onley cracked first. Still 4th is an amazing result. 36th last year on first tour. Can PicnicNL...
They are coming to the end of the toughest race on the planet. And a particularly gruelling contest this year. Getting sick, dropping out is a habitual risk when riders bodies are abused this way. They are all on the edge by this point.
