Back to the Rad battery issue. If there are 2 battery models that are prone to combust, one would think that the specific faults in these batteries would be known, but we never hear about what is actually wrong with the batteries. And what is the actual failure rate that triggered the recall?

One might wish for some report on what caused these battery failures. It seems that Rad is targeted, because this problem is much bigger than Rad. If you're planning on building a high speed ebike the Endless Sphere forum would be a better site for that kind of build.

I mostly ride solo. Did have a lady friend I used to ride with. I lent her one my spare ebikes, and took her on the best rides in the area. She ended up buying her own ebike and riding the routes I took her on with other people 🤔 . So, be careful on who you ride with. They might steal your rides.

I do have a fair amount of experience with cheap DTC bikes. Every single component on them is bottom of the line. Before gifting the bike ride it around to make sure it's safe to ride. A saddle replacement is mandatory at that price point.

Be ready to upgrade some parts. I bought a $350 shipped mid-drive bike this summer. Replaced seat, brake calipers, pedals, chain, freewheel, and derailleur. It's now a decent around town bike, but it's total costs is now around $500. The problem with cheap bikes is that they are made out of...

Drinks and bikes don't go together so well. Don't ask me about riding a small folder and applying the front brake after a few drinks.

Still, it is sad to see such an iconic brand going down.
