Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Oh, I never gave news of my purchase. Dorothy's message reminded me. So I ended up going with a Vado 3.0 IGH Step-through. The delivery/initial warranty issues were horrible. It took about 6 months to receive at the store, I had a communication issue with the store salesman that made me...

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

Hmm, that's a valid theory. I ought to give the really knowledgeable guy who sold me the bike a call. Maybe he can help me understand.

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

Wait. So I'm comparing pictures of the Vado 3.0 IGH Step-through that I own with pictures of installed café locks. I cannot tell the difference. Does anyone have an idea why the Specialized customer service agent told me that café locks are incompatible and require an adapter? I cannot for the...

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

Sigh. So I asked Specialized about cafe locks. They say that to make them work with the bike, I'd need some sort of adapter that they have but isn't available anywhere but in Europe. In other words, they say there aren't any cafe locks that work on their bikes. Welp, that sucks. Unless someone...

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

So I called the insurance company. Turns out they do not care. If my bike were stolen, they will treat my claim the exact same no matter what lock I had on it, and even if the answer is "none". That's pretty reassuring. I guess I can downgrade the security level a little bit without too many...

That's great advice, thanks! I'll definitely ask them. Because if they're going to complain about HOW I lock the bike, etc. indeed that changes things a lot.

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

So I found this: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/002321.html?type=bicycle To which you can add a chain like this: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/002260.html?type=bicycle The image shows the wheel secured...

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

I don't intend to lock my wheels. Locking the bike itself is already a big drain on my willpower. That said, the limiter with the approach is still the U lock. If it's huge enough to not have the same issues as my folding lock (or worse) i don't see how i could carry this around. The image...

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

Honestly the only way I could get used to a folding lock is if it were 50% longer. but apparently 120 cm is the longest they make. For real I cannot find the words to convey how annoying it is to have a bicycle parking right there and be unable to use it because the lock won't reach.

My lock is a nightmare to use. Thinking about maybe a cafe lock.

I have a Specialized Vado 3.0 IGH Step-through, which I (try to) lock with an Abus Bordo lock, 120 cm long, made out of hinged steel bars. But it's such a pain to use! I lose 5 minutes every time getting it in place, and it's extremely challenging to get it to reach the bike (except maybe the...

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Hi again! I just reserved my bike. Faced with the impossibility to run more trials, I had to take a somewhat arbitrary decision. I went with the Vado 3.0 IGH Step-through. It was a challenge, but my salesman was able to procure literally one of those. It should arrive in August. Trying...

Holy poop! That's a really expensive bike.

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Oh, he knows I live way too far away to give him any return business. He's just taking bike shops in general. More like soul-sucking. 😂 Man would I hate every second of that. What? But ESPECIALLY for high-end bikes with high-tech automatic transmissions, isn't it doubly important to make sure...

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

The salesman said I would need a dry, warm space to do that. So since I live pretty high up and my bike shed isn't heated, I figured I'd need several visits a year. Do I? I'm starting to doubt everything. That was a flawless explanation. Thanks! I had never thought about giving the brakes a...

Thinking of maybe getting a Gazelle C380, but I'd like to consider alternatives

Those are definitely worth a read. Right now is difficult, but I'll be sure to check those out later. I may be mistaken, but wouldn't a 5-speed hub be a little limited for climbing capability? From the model name, I'm guessing that's also a 5-speed hub? Would it also be kinda meh for hills...
