When I was bike shopping I looked at a bike from Canada with an Enviolo rear axle but chose the Rohloff simply on the recommendation of a friend that does a lot of bike touring. It has had zero issues as long as the oil is changed as specified.
Not sure what is offered now but the unit I purchased came with a Gates Belt and a manual shifting Rohloff axle. I understand that has changed in the 2025 model.
If I remember correctly I only changed the rear sprocket from a 22 to a 20. Now I can easily keep up with my wife on the road as she averages about 18mph on her Aventon rocket and it did not affect the hill climbing as I rarely get below 5th gear and most of my riding is in 11. I really like...
Thanks for the morning laughs. Weather prediction for up here is several days in the 70 degree F weather. Once all the Memorial Day tourists go home, we will do a 40 miler just to see how long it takes before we get saddle sore. Luckily most of the ride is just rolling hills and relatively flat.
I took out a couple of triangles and measured the meter against them. Both the 30 and 45 degree angles matched the meter. I also went back and remeasured the road. The hill averages between 15 and 17 degree climb.
The only thing I had to fabricate is the mount for the light. I found a generic one on Amazon and modified it. The light is pretty dim but serviceable. I did take the bike out yesterday and actually had a nice ride into town. I think I will hang on to it. Maybe still hunt around for a...
That is the bike minus the front basket, minus the front fender (knobby tires rubbed no mater what I did), with a different riser and mountain bike handlebars (much straighter) also with a better seat post.
I took out my new handy dandy grade measuring tool and found the steepest (that I know of) hill to only be 17 degrees and it is only about 100 yards long. On my regular bike it is definitely a granny gear requirement. I havent tried itwith my e-bike yet as it is about an auto hour from my house...
That is a very well thoughtful writeup. When we were shopping for an e-bike for my wife we took a look at Aventon bikes. She tried the fat tire bike and as she is only 5’2” she felt overwhelmed. She did like one of the step through bikes and rides it regularly. I also tried the fat tire bike...

When we ride longer trips it is usually on a semi finished surface. For example a well traveled dirt road or a rails to trails type surface. The trailer will not be used on single track or rough surfaces…we like the dogs too much. Ok, then I guess I am looking for that second bike now.
The trailer I am considering is a lightweight trailer designed to tow a small child or in my case two small poodles. This is for when we decide to make a 50+ mile ride with an overnight stay, not for a couple of hour joy/ exercise ride. Handle bars are flat and I have changed every bike that...
