Can’t speak for the Ultra mid-drive, but my Bafang H550 geared rear hub motor is god’s gift to my fat bike… I love the bike, and I think the motor is best part of it. I have no intention of opening this up. I’ve had two of these motors (long story, not having anything to do with the motor)...

Can you describe the problem(s) you’re having with your bike? Do you have a reason to suspect the wiring? Usually, that’s low on my list of likely failures that I hear about here.

That would be awesome. I think a 1 mile vertical rise (base camp to highest lift point) might be tough for me to complete (at any age :) ). Of course, if you run out of human or electric juice you could just head back down. That’s the beauty of riding a mountain! Good luck with your plans.

Such cool bikes. I remember Surly being early players in the fat tire bike market back in the oughts when I considered getting one for myself. That thought didn’t last long as I wasn’t he-man enough to really think I could use one! Man, if I wanted a cargo bike, this would be my list.

Just to add to what @spokewrench said, please be careful if you do this to try to revive and balance the cells. Do this in a place that’s away from combustible materials. If a battery has a weak cell, there can be several reasons for that, some of which may not be repairable by recharging. If...

Dave, it might be getting to be time to replace your chain. That’s a lot of miles on it, especially for a mid-drive. I’ll bet that chain has stretched a bit.
