Live update: Just dropped off the bike at the baggage check-in counter at American. Zero questions (other than the agent asking if am a triathlete). I had removed the motor and is now in my carry-on, which was flagged at TSA security, opened and inspected. So in summary, I could have left the...
American Airlines specifically states on its website batteries up to 160 Wh are allowed in carry-on luggage:
What can you fly with?
Batteries
Example

Silver oxide

I was just about to post this same question when the auto-search prompted me about this post as I was typing. So... some follow-up questions:
I am flying this weekend with my Specialized Creo on American, and just called their customer service to ask if I needed anything special to carry on...
Because sometimes bikes come with missized chains. Has happened to me before with a mountain bike -- the chain as installed by the shop was too long, and it took me a few months before I realized the bike shifted much better with a few links taken out. Either way, my chain looks like it could...
It's fine in the small cog. No slack in the chain at 114 links. But that only tells me that it's not too long at 114. It doesn't tell me if 112 is too short.
Need some help with chain length sizing. I need to replace the chain on my Turbo Creo SL, so I bought a new Shimano CN-HG701-11 chain.
The chain that came on my Creo has 114 links. However, this looks too long to me. Here is the bike with the 114-link chain, in the biggest cog:
So I took...
Not that hard; takes about 20 minutes once I learned what all needed to be removed. There is a YouTube video somewhere of a guy showing the process. However, IIRC he removes the entire crank to get access to one of the drive side motor bolts, which is not necessary. Instead I take off the...
I have removed the internal battery from my Specialized Creo in anticipation of a vacation next week, where we are flying with our bikes. I'll be using Range Extenders in place of the internal battery. With the battery removed, the two bolts that hold the battery in place cannot be rethreaded...
Thanks for confirming. Yeah, I have the rubber band and will use it when I take the bike out. Just didn't have it on when I was monkeying around with the battery trying to figure out how it should be installed.
One thing I noticed in your picture is that, on the aluminum frame, the charging port looks like it is positioned slightly differently than on the carbon frame. Mine looks to be just slightly lower and more on a lower angle, which might be the difference in the amount of slack needed to easily...
Good thought, but the battery has a notch on only one side. That notch lines up with the top section of the bottle cage, which holds the battery in place.
As designed:
Rotated 180. This doesn't really work:
Thanks... I just checked to make sure I didn't actually have the 160 mm cable! But it has "220 mm" printed on the inside.
The difficulty is getting the plug inserted into the charge port. The cable needs to have enough slack to allow the plug to insert straight into the port. I am finding...
