    American Airlines - Only "non-motorized"

Live update: Just dropped off the bike at the baggage check-in counter at American. Zero questions (other than the agent asking if am a triathlete). I had removed the motor and is now in my carry-on, which was flagged at TSA security, opened and inspected. So in summary, I could have left the...

    American Airlines - Only "non-motorized"

American Airlines specifically states on its website batteries up to 160 Wh are allowed in carry-on luggage: What can you fly with? Batteries Example 9-volt AA/AAA/C/D Alkaline Carbon zinc Silver oxide Zinc air Lithium or lithium-ion Nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride Allowed for travel...

    American Airlines - Only "non-motorized"

I was just about to post this same question when the auto-search prompted me about this post as I was typing. So... some follow-up questions: I am flying this weekend with my Specialized Creo on American, and just called their customer service to ask if I needed anything special to carry on...

Correct chain length on Turbo Creo SL?

Because sometimes bikes come with missized chains. Has happened to me before with a mountain bike -- the chain as installed by the shop was too long, and it took me a few months before I realized the bike shifted much better with a few links taken out. Either way, my chain looks like it could...

Correct chain length on Turbo Creo SL?

It's fine in the small cog. No slack in the chain at 114 links. But that only tells me that it's not too long at 114. It doesn't tell me if 112 is too short.

Correct chain length on Turbo Creo SL?

Ok thanks -- so it sounds like the longer 114 link length is the way to go.

Correct chain length on Turbo Creo SL?

Need some help with chain length sizing. I need to replace the chain on my Turbo Creo SL, so I bought a new Shimano CN-HG701-11 chain. The chain that came on my Creo has 114 links. However, this looks too long to me. Here is the bike with the 114-link chain, in the biggest cog: So I took...

How to fill battery bolt holes on Specialized Creo after removing battery?

Not that hard; takes about 20 minutes once I learned what all needed to be removed. There is a YouTube video somewhere of a guy showing the process. However, IIRC he removes the entire crank to get access to one of the drive side motor bolts, which is not necessary. Instead I take off the...

How to fill battery bolt holes on Specialized Creo after removing battery?

I went the tape route. Cut two circles of black electrical tape. Hopefully they stay on!

How to fill battery bolt holes on Specialized Creo after removing battery?

I have removed the internal battery from my Specialized Creo in anticipation of a vacation next week, where we are flying with our bikes. I'll be using Range Extenders in place of the internal battery. With the battery removed, the two bolts that hold the battery in place cannot be rethreaded...

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

Thanks for confirming. Yeah, I have the rubber band and will use it when I take the bike out. Just didn't have it on when I was monkeying around with the battery trying to figure out how it should be installed.

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

One thing I noticed in your picture is that, on the aluminum frame, the charging port looks like it is positioned slightly differently than on the carbon frame. Mine looks to be just slightly lower and more on a lower angle, which might be the difference in the amount of slack needed to easily...

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

Good thought, but the battery has a notch on only one side. That notch lines up with the top section of the bottle cage, which holds the battery in place. As designed: Rotated 180. This doesn't really work:

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

Thanks... I just checked to make sure I didn't actually have the 160 mm cable! But it has "220 mm" printed on the inside. The difficulty is getting the plug inserted into the charge port. The cable needs to have enough slack to allow the plug to insert straight into the port. I am finding...

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

I am using the Zee cage that came with the Range Extender. If it is installed on the down tube, it opens on the drive side. On the seat tube, it opens on the non-drive side. The plug is just really difficult to get into the charge port when the battery is in the cage. Maybe it will stretch...

Do I have my Range Extender installed correctly?

I have a new Range Extender battery and cable. Haven't used it yet but testing out how it fits on the bike. Am I doing this correctly? Reason I ask is because the cable seems extremely taut, as if it is almost a few mm too short. Is there another way to have the battery sit in the cage that...

Multi-day trip w/ range extenders only (flying)

How do you carry four range extenders on the bike? Plus water?

Multi-day trip w/ range extenders only (flying)

Yes, exactly. I bought two range extenders and will remove the internal battery so the bike can travel on the airplane. The range extenders are 160 Wh, which is the maximum allowable in a carry-on.

Multi-day trip w/ range extenders only (flying)

Thanks for verifying… Guess the Specialized guy didn’t know what he was talking about. So what does it do when two range extenders are attached? Nothing? Or does it juice up one and ignore the other?
