    And todays morons are

Agree on the need for caution around pedestrians, dog walkers, skateboarders and such. Also deer, rabbits and what I call suicidal squirrels who seem to compete to cross right in front of cyclists.

    Restricted-Update Firmware message?

It seems this is a European bike. If hes not in Europe it’s not a big deal. If its not in Europe, it will be fun for the LBS to address.

Turbo Vado SL4 & SQlab inner barends and grips

Stefan’s explanation is spot on. I’ll just add that you will probably have to fiddle with innerbarend, grip, brake and shifter positions a bit to get your ideal fit. I did it by not quite fully tightening the components so I could adjust them on the fly. This combo will greatly improve your...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I just picked up the bike today and all is well. The rear derailleur pulleys should optionally be replaced but the dealer didn’t have them is stock. I’ll order them and install them myself when I confirm the correct model as the original was replaced two years ago. I also have to sandpaper the...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Thanks, Stefan. Now I have to wait to hear from the shop to confirm our judgement. I also learned a lesson: don’t try to identify a problem with darkly colored components in poor lighting. When the bile was put on the stand in the well lit bike shop the truth was easy to see.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Stefan, I wish you’d replied two hours sooner. 😀 It would have saved me the effort of mounting my hitch rack and the bike onto it and driving to the LBS. That was what the mechanic discovered. They’re going to check the derailleur as it appears to be a bit wobbly but otherwise it’s no big deal...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Now for something sort of different. (Apologies to John Cleese.) I had a nice ride in the mist the other day. Not rain, just mist. Got home, wiped the bike down with a towel and racked it in my garage. I went down yesterday to clean and lube the chain. I was running the chain through the Park...

Is the Specialized SL 1.1 Motor As Loud As They Say?

I agree. Besides the variety of human natures it is also possible that different ind motor have slightly different noise profiles.

Is the Specialized SL 1.1 Motor As Loud As They Say?

The motor noise on my SL 4 is definitely noticeable, but I usually don’t mind. The noise is often how I know the motor is assisting since the assist is so subtle.

Do You Wear a Wristwatch When You Ride?

I had looked into the Specialized app. It doesn’t connect to the watch for Heart Beats, which is my main statistical interest. The other riding and bike details are just for fun. Since I now have a separate heart monitor I should check it out.

Do You Wear a Wristwatch When You Ride?

I may have already posted that I ride with my Apple Watch using it for heart beat tracking and using it for workouts while riding. Recently, the watches battery was getting fully drained on rides of only 60 to 90 minutes. I was struggling with finding a solution. I bought a heart monitor band...

What camera do you use if you are into photography, when cycling

The Yashica in the photo is a Twin-lens Reflex copy of the German Rolleiflex. When it was new it sold for around $100 compared to the Rollei’s $400-500. Not as fine a machine but then and now a very good camera. They also made other popular cameras over the years. 35 mm Rangefinders and SLRs and...

    Well-controlled tire pressure experiment

I participated in a similar discussion on another thread - the SL2 Alloy one I believe - and have started my own testing, lowering my Pathfinders to 50 psi from 55 psi for a handful of rides so far. The slightly lower pressure does soften bumps quite a bit, to my surprise. I can’t tell if...

Vado SL 2 Alloy version released

I know the bike can withstand quite rough paths. When my Ebike group rode to Harpers Ferry last summer town entry was via a single track through woods, over a stream and large stones gravel railroad track grading. The bike was fine, I’m just not comfortable riding there. I’m older and no longer...
