Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I don’t have the bike yet. About two weeks for delivery and assembly at the LBS. I will share my impressions when I’ve gotten the bike. I think I’ll provide details then. I bought it through a local Specialized dealer - Al’s Bike in Herndon VA - who arranged the trade-in through a partner...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I did it. I’m trading in my Vado SL1 Model 4EQ for a new Vado SL2 5. Got a really good trade in value making the purchase a no brainer and as many can attest, that’s my normal state. It”ll take a week and a half or two for delivery and assembly. Very exciting for this old man.

Thanks for the clarification. I had trouble with the wording.

concerns with ebikes laws and ways to improve them

FWIW, when I had an analog hybrid bike (2019 Cannondale Adventure 1) my speed was 12-14 mph. Now, I ride a class 3 Specialized Turbo Vado SL where my average speed on the same trail is 14-16 MPH. I suppose if I had a regular Turbo Vado that is much more powerful I could sustain higher speeds...

New Federal E-Bike Legislation March 2026

An observstion, relevant to these issues. I’ve seen more mainstream media reporting on e-bikes that explicitly differentiates e-bikes and e-motos and also often includes reference to the three classes of e-bike. It will take a while for ignorant legislators to comprehend these subtleties and we...

FWIW, I actually like the slight motor noise. When I’m riding fast, the assist stops when I’ve exceeded the torque sensitivity and the motor noise coming back on lets me know I’m again receiving assistance. (I know, what I’m experiencing and explaining may not be accurate, it’s what I sense...

Raising Handlebars to Ease Hand Pressure

Changing hand position during a ride def can help. Besides bar ends as mentioned, Inner Bar Ends do a great job of offering additional hand positions while also putting your arms closer together which also relieves some hand stress. The

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

Thanks for the terrific advice. If I’d it would have saved me an hour and the vast sum of $17 (😀). At my age you’d think I’d have dealt with this before, but I’ve actually only been riding bikes as an adult for seven years and had never removed, let alone replaced a chain. Seriously, I think...

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

Fantastic. So, for the cost of ten trips to the bike shop I can break the chains I change every two or three years! What a bargain. 😀

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

Thanks for the info. I did realize I needed a better chain breaker - a bigger lever as it were. I had my LBS take care of it. It only cost $17, an hour of driving and shop time and a bit of embarrassment. I’m still considering updating the drive train to 11 speeds so knowing the chained require...

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

I agree. But I’m dumb sometimes. I measured and though borderline I decided to replace the chain. Getting it off was easy. Measuring the new chain was pretty easy too. But I wasn’t strong enough to break the chain so I decided to put the old chain back on and bring it to the shop. And I...

The Ultimate Mid-Drive Chain Care Thread

I just reread this thread in the midst of deciding what to do about my drivetrain. My current chain has about 4000 miles on it and is just barely hitting the .5 mark on wear. The cassette has about 8800 miles on it. So, I’m probably due for a new chain. I’ve tried to determine the health of my...

Can’t wait to see what you discover. I’m getting close to needing too replace my cassette, etc and this sounds like an interesting viable and significant upgrade.

Replacing The Coin Battery In the Specialized SL TCU Gen 1

Thanks for the reminder. I’m due to change mine again. This time I think I’ll be proactive

Vado SL 4.0 Deore drivetrain upgrade suggestions

I’m throwing a curve on this discussion. What are the thoughts on replacing Deore (which is being fazed out at this level anyway) with Cues which supposedly has smoother shifting and longer life. I’m not that concerned about wearing out. My drive train is approaching 9000 miles and other than...
