X-Treme Summit 36v & 48v mid-drive

I noticed almost a year ago a post here asking about the x-treme Summit mid-drive, and did not see any responses, so thought I would try again.

In looking at their website, they seem to have a variety of electric bikes available. I was somewhat surprised not to see the X-Treme brand listed separately - @Court - should this brand have its own listing ?

Back to the Summit mid-drive - its available in 36 and 48 volt, lists are 1499 and 1999. I've seen the 36v lower than 1499. I'd like to go see one, but closest (only) dealer in area is maybe 200 miles from here. Thought this one might work for me and stay at around the 1500 + - range

Any thoughts or comments or info on this one ? Thanks in advance

Not bad if you have local dealer support but if ordering by mail I think you could do better. Their website says that the bike can go 45mph... I doubt it. Also the rear rack is mounted way too high! Not much thought put into it... kind of makes me wonder if they didn't put much thought into other parts.

I believe the drive is the Bofeili mid drive, which has been used by a number of brands. It's also shown up on a few crowd funding campaigns. You should be able to get service for it, it would likely be more difficult than say a Bosch.

Search results for Bofeili here on the forums:

Here are some bikes on Alibaba using Bofeili:

I do think you can do better with a $2k budget. There are great deals available on 2016 bikes. (Link Removed - No Longer Exists).

In my opinion the biggest downside with the X-Treme are the battery and the componentry. The battery is a LiFePO4, which is an old chemistry that's low in power and about twice the weight as other more mainstream ebike batteries. As for the components used on these bikes, they're very basic entry level and will require more service and sooner replacement.

Thanks J R
I have to agree with you comments. I more or less came to a similar conclusion shortly after I posted.
But it is all part of the learning process. I have set my sights in another direction. And once again - this site is an awesome tool.
