www.thebikeshop.com - safe to order from?

Hello friends,

The 'Is this too good to be true' thread gave me a reminder about online suppliers that are in fact scam operations.

My search for a particular set of rims lead me to www.thebikeshop.com and no place else, at least on my first decent search.

I did my basic homework, not the 'best' supplier but appeared orders had in fact been fulfilled and even a thread here from a while back (1-2 years) gave some insight it was a previously known company taken over with new ownership and hence the new name at the time.

Just reaching out - anyone here order from this online source in the last 6-12 months? Or any concerns on them being a scam that my searches may have missed?

Thank you.

I've bought from them. They fulfill orders. Parts that come in boxes with a part # on them they are quite competent at sending. They have things that I can't find anywhere else, like sturmey archer 3 speed IGH parts.
When they were niagaracycle.com, they were incompetent at sending nuts and bolts of a particular size. They were happy to refund my money when I complained, but that didn't get my bike fixed. Niagara was totally unable to use a caliper or a thread gage to identify the nut or bolt they were sending. Not a scam, they always refunded my money for random junk, but I ended up making nuts and bolts from a thread tool house (victornet.com) that does know how to measure parts. Haven't tried the new owners on nuts & bolts yet.
The thebikeshop.com website is more organized than my current top supplier, modernbike.com, which organizes things more like stream of conciousness. If i can actually find something at modern (difficult), more likely I can use it.

Never heard of the company, but they have physical locations and phone numbers. Scam companies typically have little information; no phone, no address...you can only contact them through e-mail.

Shaun,
Good LBS here in Calgary. I've been in their stores many times, but only bought small accessories.

I think they bought out Cyclepath to expand their business here.

I was going to buy a Vado 5 there a month or so, but they, and all the shops here all raised the prices by $400 (so likely Specialized pricing across the board). I have since found a LBS with the Vado 5 with the original pricing. Still bloody expensive mind you.

Back on topic. Good LBS - online store is an unknown, but should be good.

Cheers from Calgary!

Thank you for all the replies. I will report back my experience once my order has shipped and been received.

Cheers,
Shaun
