When not using battery power to ride.

My ST1 has drag like I am pulling something when just using it as a normal mode of transportation-without using the battery to power it. The interface is shut off but the hub feels like it is engaged for battery power. Any links for help solving this problem would be appreciated. Of course feedback would too.

Don't know the technical answer but it's the magnets on your motor peripheral that are dragging that keep it from freewheeling someone will chime in and explain it in more detail. By the way those magnets are extremely strong about 30 of them

Its called "cogging", google it. You get a little taste of it every time you stop pedaling. Especially on more powerful st2. Its inherent to the motors design, but kinda worth it, cause to eliminate it requires more complexity. Im almost positive I read that new st5 is without cogging, but surely must have more complexity, cause the action between magnets and windings must be removed.

Direct drive motors do suffer the cogging effect, as mentioned. They don't freewheel like a geared hub motor. Great at speed when powered and dead silent. There's good and bad to each type of hub.
