Apologies if this has been covered already but there does not appear to be any way to turn the front and rear lights off. Is that correct or am I missing something?
I don't know whether you have the same control switch on a 5.0 (mine is a 4.0), or what year your bike is (IIRC Specialized had the lights on at all times on older models). But if your control switch is turned on the bars the right way, you won't see the headlamp button on the lower side of it. Here is my switch. My lights come on every time I power up the bike, but press the button and I can turn them off (2020 Vado 4.0).
Bummer. Your model may be one where Specialized wants the lights on at all times. Or, hopefully, one with more knowledge than me on the model will be of some help! Good luck.

I think the difference is bikes marketed in the States vs those marketed in the Euro area. I'm guessing Euro regs require the lights on. Not so in the States.
I think the difference is Vado vs. Vado SL. The switch and the Tektro brakes appear to belong to a Vado SL, not a Vado. And yes, the lights on an SL stay on when the bike is on.
@KAM2005: I'm in Europe, own Vado 5.0 and can explain that:
Your Vado 5.0 is probably equipped with the Supernova M99 Pro headlight, you know, that large strong lamp. The whole idea behind this light is to:
During the daytime, the Supernova automatically produces the daylight lighting for your road safety. The use of the battery is just symbolic for that
At the dark, the low-beam light comes up. It is a 500 or 600 lumen light, ensuring extremely good road visibility for you
Day or night, once you press the "Lights" button, the Supernova comes up with 1600 lumen high-beam. That is more than the high-beam headlight of a car typically produces. Use only on non-public roads (for example in the woods at night) or as a warning signal or wherever you would have used the high-beam in a car. The high-beam headlight ensures a 350 m long light-beam!
The rear light is always on for your own safety.
I hope that explains everything.
P.S. It is a premium lighting system Specialized and a Vado 5.0 owner should be proud of The Americas have that different perhaps but Europe is all about the safety. Not sure if your Vado 5.0 is a Speed-Pedelec. Mine is. The EU law requires such lighting of a Speed e-bike.
