Stromer: Replace battery or get new ebike?

Hi All,

New to the forum, glad to be a part of it!

I just acquired a first generation Stromer (2010 model) from a family member but would need to buy a new battery for it. Otherwise it's in pretty good shape. I'm on the fence as to whether I should get a new battery ~$1000 or just credit that money to a new ebike? I'm not willing to spend the $3-5K required to get a new premium brand like Stromer, but am willing to put some money on top to get a new model of a more affordable brand... maybe $2K total max. I'm also considering an ebike conversion kit. I'm interested in using an ebike to commute in the city, and would prefer it it had a little more pep than 250w (the Stromer is 500w) Considering this a couple questions for the group:

1. Is a lower tier brand ebike in the sub $2k price range or a conversion kit generally going to be a better investment than a $1K investment to get an almost 10 year old Stromer up and running?

2. Is the battery-less Stromer worth anything, if so what? Would it be easy to sell? Would I need to get a battery to sell it anyways? I'm in the mid-atlantic area in the US (Baltimore).

Thanks!

Where did you get this exorbitant number?
YOu should be able to get a 36V, Stromer ST1 battery for $500.

You could get ex-rental fleet Stromer ST1-X for $1750 and at that price point, nothing else comes close.

Stromer was not even in the US market 10 years ago. If it is truly 10yrs old this is not worth more than $750.

I suspect this is more of 2013 model and you should be able to get some batteries for that.
