Hi all

so an update after 300 kms of riding my Sparkbike 17 amp hour bike.

-back light does not work anymore. the wire literally fell apart.
-Some creaks and groans
-tires holding up well for now.
-500 watt motor seems fine
-A Mudguard was defective but was changed out by Sparkbike to their credit.
-gears still ok and it changes well enough for what they are.
-bell broke after few weeks
-electrical connectors seem tight no issues yet in rain.
-screen still working well. I did cover with a plastic sandwich bag in rain.
-Brake failure on both hydraulic brakes around 170 km. I had Velofix out and they say brakes were leaking and pads gouging a deep channel into rotors. Paid 135 CAD plus tax for a fix. Bitch of a job they said.
-300 km and the brakes again have failed. No pressure at all. Tried bleeding but no luck will need to take to a shop again in back of car as dangerous to ride with no brakes. Sparkbike say it’s normal wear and tear. Which I dispute as it has been 300 km on flat suburban roads with normal brake usage. I have had Cheap heavy non electric bikes that are still on original pads many years later with no issues. So that’s 300 bucks in repairs in a few months on me. Will I have more in another 130 kms though?

I also can’t ride during this Covid 19 crisis as planned, as no brakes period. That’s frustrating in getting to my essential service job.

bike pretty solid apart from that for a Chinese bike. I always ride in PAS 8 or 9 anything less is weak. Having throttle is nice for starts. Battery range is good now weather is warmer. (17 Amp hour). In 0degree cold it fell by at least 50 percent. Expected though but something to be aware off.

Hi Daniel,
I also have brake problems but I know why; I received it with a huge bash torn on one side of the box. That made the left side develop a small leak which I though wouldn't be much trouble. Later I dropped the bike on its right side and it hit the brake lever...leak on right side.
I have to open them up once a week to add a little oil and shake and tap the hoses to help pump the bubbles out. The problem very slowly gets worse. I figure there's a rubber gasket on the lever piston that becomes displaced or ripped but I'm dealing with it so far. Cheapest easiest fix I see is to buy non electric tektro brakes on clearout discounts for $25 or so each and forget about motor cutout function, and replace the lever/oil reservoir units.
I'm just not sure. It's my first experience with bike disk brakes of any type. I'd prefer to repair the brakes I have (maybe as simple as replacing a gasket if they are available somewhere) but I need to have more info before I try that.
Please report back with any developments, thanks!

Freezing weather really hits the mileage for sure.
