Shimano eTube Project faults

Hi all.
I just bought a 2020 Merida eOne Sixty 8000 and am mightily impressed except for Shimano's infamous software customisation app called eTube Project.

I repeatedly get to the window on my ipad or iphone that invites me to 'pair' withthe SCE8000 display unit via Bluetooth and enter a passcode (which comes standard as "000000"), then get a message "Unable to authenticate".

Of course, there is no web portal for asking Shimano direct and its FAQ page is essentially useless. Has anyone experienced this problem and did you find a solution?

cheers, Richard

Maybe get a PC interface? I had a 2017 Motobecane HAL eBoost Pro w/e8000 and never could get the damn Bluetooth pairing to work either. Several attempts to get resolution from the seller (Bikes Direct) and Shimano got no response.

In late 2017 I picked up a Shimano SM-PCE1 PC/laptop interface for $125 - it did everything the app purported to do and more. In 2018, I noticed that the PCE1 supply seemed to dwindle (and its price increased, of course). Now it seems to be discontinued and replaced by the SM-PCE02, which lists for over $200 and no one seems to be discounting it much here in the USA. Maybe you can find a deal in Australia...

FWIW I'm glad I kept the PCE1 after I sold the Motobecane - last year I bought a 2018 Commencal w/e8000 and have never even attempted to use the phone app with it. I use my desktop to update the bike's firmware, set its assist levels how I want them, and generate reports like the one that's partially shown below.

I'm not sure if the app offers that, but I've heard some horror stories about Bluetooth disconnection during updates, which caused all kinds of problems...

What does the Interface look like? The Shimano app is only available on handheld devices, not laptops or desktops, so connectivity is a big issue.

Great info on the Shimano eTube software and hardware interface... thanks for sharing.
What is the latest software version for download... 3.4.5? Any issues with delimiting the speed?

I can’t remember what the latest version is off the top of my head. I’ll try to check tomorrow night. Shimano added “securities” to prevent delimiting in recent firmware versions. EMTB has a thread that lists the the last version that still allows delimiting.

I have 2 bikes with the Shimano drive system and I want to make sure that I can continue to use the speed box.
Let us know the software version that we should not update beyond. Thanks!

I'm not a believer in delimiting the speed of eMTBs, so I always just update to the latest versions. As of 1/26/20, it was:
