Below is a link to Park Tools' website where they have excellent tutorials on adjustments and tune ups for your bicycle. I have used much of their offerings with great success. They really step you through the process of adjusting derailleurs, cable tension, alignment , etc. That section is especially good. It does help a great deal to have a good repair stand.

Speaking of Parktool, this is the component cleaner (Citrus Chainbrite) I use. It's the easiest to apply and is safe for all of your components.

James, I saw that on their website, good to know it works well. They have a chain lube as well, any experience with that product?

I'm sure it works well, but I've never actually used it. I use this Muc-Off Ceramic Dry Lube:



It has a built in uv reactive component to it so you can see when to add more!
