Old Broken Down E-Bike Battery Gutted

So i got this old used Bike here and wanna do a complete overhaul
but to admit im pretty clueless on how to start or where to look for a new battery even after reading alot about how the batteries work, engines, batterie guides etc.

Is it possible to buy an battery pack and install it in this casing?

Or would you guys recommend buying a new battery? if so, where would be the best place to look for it and how do i make sure the connection to the controller is provided ?

Batteries are expensive to throw at a dead bike. Do you know that the rest of the bike will work? Motor or controller could be cooked.

Have you read enough to figure out where your battery shell connected to your bike? Is there a dangling connector on a heavy duty cable that looks like it fits the battery? It should be pretty obvious.

If it were my bike, I'd find the connector. It's going to take +36 volts and GND. Then I'd borrow a 36 volt battery and see if it still runs.

got this guy right here going down to the controller, so should be rather easy i figured?

I would like to borrow one but its going to be hard to find sbd with a battery suiting that connection..is it possible to find an adapter perhaps ?

It appears that you are missing the BMS perhaps? If you can not find the exact parts, and know exactly how it goes together, I think you are best off buying another entierly different battery that has a BMS and mounting system, and adapting it to the bike. If you have to ask what GND is, I would posit that maybe you are not up to the task as far as safety goes. Keep in mind a depleted battery still contains a heck of a lot of energy capable of starting a fire. The charger circuit is perhaps there, but a BMS would have balance wires for each cell bank, and I do not see those there? I could be wrong, no images from your last post.

Maybe see if you can find a battery that has same cell configuration and transfer all the cells and BMS into that one, so the outside is the same? Dunno, you have a project ahead of you! Good luck.

Wait: Was that a SLA battery? If so, figure out how to replace the whole thing with something like this:

Ups sorry didnt work with the pics. Its an typical c13/14 connector found on computers etc.

Yeah it was an lead acid but ofcourse i would like to put a safe lithium ion battery and definitly with BMS

I admid i for now im still struggeling to see through all that electrical components but im hoping together with the help of this forum ill soon be prepared for this task :)

Lets say i take a (36v)battery from a friends ebike and i turn the c14 connector into one fitting the borrowed battery, and plug it to the c13(to the controller)..would that be enough to try if the controller and motor are working?

The good news is there is PLENTY of room to fit whatever battery you could possibly want in that space. The one I linked to would be perfect, 1/3rd of the weight and twice the capacity and 100's more charge cycles. Get it with the mounting rack which has the output wires, and wire it into where the old battery fed the bike. The hardest part really would be figuring out how to mount the rack, but a good mechanic/hacker should get it sorted in a under ab hour. Don't forget to order the appropriate charger with the new battery.

Check out this battery, it has the measurements in it. Measure your battery cage if this will fit. You need a new charger for lithium battery, the old charger is not compatible for lithium (no built-in safety programs).

@Lost your option looks good and im sure i could mount the rack, no prob. the only thing i dont like so much would be the price, do you think there would be an cheaper solution possibly ?

@Mark Peralta this one looks very nice and also the price is more in my range. but its unfortunately 0,5cm to big to fit in the designed space in the frame

im very happy for your responds and hope we can make this little beauty roll again :)
 
Rob, let's see those connections and tell us what you plan to do. Do you have a voltmeter? You can't do this without knowing how to use a meter, and you have to understand positive and negative voltage.

Please don't be borrowing a battery from a friend unless you or he knows what's going on. Otherwise, you could or will have two non working ebikes and one broken battery.

If you get a new battery, you just have to figure out which one is positive terminal and which one is negative terminal and you can ride the bike. The third (middle terminal is blank).

EDIT - Me and Mark have the same info, so we're both right or both wrong. :)

Most people use red for positive and black for negative. If that were true.

So that means your cord is like this.

To be sure, if you can follow the black cord all the way to the controller, it should connect into a black and red wire , which are the power wires for the controller. A careful person would do a continuity test to make sure the controller's red wire goes to the pin I labelled at 36V,.

After that, a person can apply 36 volts to the appropriate pins on the rubber cord to test the ebike. Three car batteries would work.

As for the battery case, remove everything except for the connector. Connect the new battery to the connector. For convenience, mount a charging plug on the case.
