I posted this a couple of days ago in another thread:

"In Ohio
House Bill 250 passed the house 90-0 so now the bill is in the Senate Transportation Committee. If you live in Ohio call your senators, voice your support, and request that they bring the bill out of committee and put it up for a vote.

Use this link http://www.ohiosenate.gov/senators/district-map to find your state senator with your street address.

House bill 250 excludes electric bicycles from being classified as motorized bicycles or mopeds and allows them to be used on bike paths and bike trails.

https://www.legislature.ohio.gov/legislation/legislation-status?id=GA132-HB-250 "

House Bill 250 also makes some other important distinctions that will reclassify ebikes as more like bikes than being grouped with mopeds and motorcycles. It is important that these changes be made.

Call or Email Now! Make it a priority!

It's really easy..the locator link works really well. Thanks Gator :) Feels great to take action...

H.B. 250 is still in committee.

Please contact your State Senator ASAP. You can use the links in the first post of the thread to find out who your state senator is. You can also contact the members of the Senate Transportation Commerce and Workforce Committee using this link; http://www.ohiosenate.gov/committees/transportation-commerce-and-workforce

Now is our chance!
I used the locator link again for a more detailed plea. I got the nicest reply from my Senator who is very pro E bikes. Hope it passes soon. Thanks again Gator ?

Let's start working on Gov. Kasich. With the mid-term elections approaching fast, Gov. Kasich is leaving office in Jan. Ohio will have a new Gov. and may have new state senators and reps to deal with so let's get it done now so we don't have to convince, persuade, and cajole a new set of personalities to get this bill passed and signed into law.

Contact: http://governor.ohio.gov/Contact/Contact-the-Governor

My email:

"Gov. Kasich
Please use whatever influence you have to move HB 250 out of Senate Transportation Commerce and Workforce Committee, put it up for a vote, and please sign it into law. I ride an electric bike and it has provided me with immeasurable benefits to my health. These bikes are not motorcycles and need to be re-classified. In addition, Ohio bike trails need to opened up to electric bikes and please continue to expand the trails. Thank You for all you have done for Ohio."

And,... if you haven't already, use the links in this thread to contact your state rep or senator. Voice your support and desire to see the laws affecting Ebikes changed.

Thanks in Advance =D

Today I got a nice reply from Gov. K's office telling of the debate going on about HB 250. Also that I will be notified when it gets to his desk for approval. It nice to feel we can be listened to?

So, I'm on the verge of buying one of Magnum's e-bikes. Specifically either the Magnum Metro or Ui6. Both are listed as both Class 2 (because they have a throttle that goes up to 20mph) and Class 3 (because you can go up to 25+mph while pedaling). And I am totally confused where they fit in as e-bikes under the law? Should I disconnect the throttle to keep it legal in Ohio? Or if I don't should it be registered as a moped?

From what i understand Class 2 is considered bicycle. Class 3 is moped because of the speed. So moped would need to licensed as such.
