I just did a 48 mile ride today starting at Millwood section of the North County Trailways towards Putnam County Tralways all the way to the end of the bike trail (first time on that trail). Ride time was 2 hours and ten minutes, so my average speed was 22 mph.
On the map, it is the upper half of the bike trail.

One of the road cyclists cried "not fair!". I told him this is not a race, I'm just having fun with my toy. He later caught up with me and said "is that all you've got?" So I powered up and never saw him again.

48 miles is quite a ride, and a lot for a continuous trail. Here, above Albany, we have some nice trails, but nowhere near that long. The Erie Canal Trail is an exception, but I believe it is broken in several places where you have to ride on roads. Thanks for the pictures.

There are lots of places to enjoy your bicycle in Westchester and Upstate, New York.

If I ride the whole trail from South County Trailways to Putnam County Trailways. It would total to 88 miles round trip. http://www.nycbikemaps.com/maps/north-and-south-county-trailways-bike-map/

On top of that, we also have Bike Sundays where a certain highway is closed for bicycleS and other family use (10AM-2PM). I usually do 4 rounds of the 13-mile Bronx River Parkway roundtrip. http://parks.westchestergov.com/featured-events/bicycle-sundays

I believe you may have mentioned Bike Sunday once before. It sounds like a fun ride. If I wasn't 2 1/2 hours away I would ride with you...well, at least one round trip. :p

I did another round trip at North County Trailways. I started at Tarrytown Lake and this time I did 60 miles. Ride time was 2 hours and 45 minutes (average speed of 21.8 mph).

Fast road cyclists motivate me to pedal faster, so I have the added bonus of more exercise compared to my stationary bike based on my heart rate monitor.

I just did a 35 mile round trip today. I happen to be on the same route as a peloton of cyclists wearing the same uniforms. I courteously passed all of them and they were not rude. One cyclist commented I have a tricked out bike. I was only able to time my return trip since I forgot to set my watch. Average speed on return trip was 23 mph. The first HALF of the trip could have been a little slower due to slight elevation.
