No rebound in the shocks

I have a ripcurrent S and at first the shocks were too stiff so I let out some air in the shocks. All I did was take off the left cap and air pretty much started leaking and I put the cap back on pretty quickly. Then I pushed down on the handlebar and now the fork doesn’t bounce back up it just stays down. Did I take out too much air and need to get a shock pump to refill air?

Bike air shocks are high pressure, low volume. There's no way I know of, of letting a little air out without either a pump or pressure gauge with relief valve. Because of the high pressure, low volume the air, uncontrolled, will be released in a split second. Good news is you didn't damage anything. I use a Rockshox pump for my Rockshox fork. I think it cost $20 something several years ago.

Cheaper on Amazon. Works well and easy to precisely fill the right amount of air. You could possibly use a good bike pump. Removing the pump can release too much air and checking with gauge will release even more. Don't over inflate, you could blow seals.

Thanks for the reply. Had no idea I could’ve damaged the shocks. How would I know if something was damaged? I was just told to remove the cap and let some air out without any caution to use a pump. No wonder it all escaped i didn’t let it off for long so I was confused but, makes sense you said it would be gone in a split second.

I just found that pump last night and will order asap, good to know I selected the correct pump. My bike pump nozzle didn’t fit into the shock cap.

You didn't do anything most of us haven't done, onceo_O

30 years ago I did the same thing on a motorcycle air shock. I never had air shocks on a 2 wheeler before! Had to buy a pump for it and now I have an even better pump from Rockshox. Should last the next 30 years... I won't, but it will.
