My wife and friends have always loved biking, whether road or mountain bike. On the road, it was just riding for fun, including events, and they typically did long rides. They all competed in mountain biking events for years and some still do. Also, a few of them built trails decades ago in Northern California, and a group of women got together often for fun rides. Fortunately for me, I'd hang out with the founder at big events and Jacquie would always make me lunch in the trailer. I'd ride at least once or twice a year with them on the road if there was good food involved, and did a number of mountain bike rides.

But I never enjoyed riding. To be honest, I thought it sucked. To me, it's just slow transportation. If you want to get somewhere, either ride fast as fast as possible and get it over with, or drive. Even when I was riding 400 miles a week during one period of my life, I still hated it although I enjoyed racing cars from a stop light as far as I could keep up with them. Of course, I lost a lot but at least there was something to do other than push the stupid peddle and stare at asphalt.

A few months ago, my wife wanted to upgrade her bike and some friends had ebikes. So, I bought her a Giant E Stance. She loves it and still gets a great workout.

Recently, I thought that having an electric motor would make it fun and if I had an ebike, I could join them on rides and not kill myself riding up a hill, or pushing the bike up the hill while walking.

I always thought that fat bikes were cool. I wasn't going to buy a bike unless it had big fat tires and a big electric motor. So I bought one that had both. My first ride on it was a blast. It was an easy trail with a lot of switchbacks. I probably ate a lot of bugs from smiling (free protein!). The bike is fast and fun. It was the very first time I ever enjoyed riding a bike. I still got a workout but am moving much, much faster which eliminates the boring aspect. The fat tires are different but not a big deal. Just feels a little "washy" on different surfaces.

BTW, thanks to this forum, I found some great information on bike racks. I just ordered what we need from Quikrstuff. Fingers crossed it'll arrive by Christmas. Riding in hardpack snow will be interesting.

lunch…,good food….mountain bike rides.
Sounds like my kind of riding, Brick! 😀

Wow you were cranking out some serious miles there for awhile for a guy who didn’t like riding.

Ebikes have certainly made the two-wheeled platform an even more enjoyable/practical method of exercise and getting around for me.

I tow a little two-wheeled trailer to work every day, probably around 45 lbs or so. Certainly doable on an analog bike, but the ebike just makes it quicker and more enjoyable.

Enjoy the forum!

Congrats Brick on your new ebike!
btw, which bike did you get?
Looking forward to seeing your adventures.

Having an Ebike makes it worthwhile. If it doesn't have a motor, I'm not interested. LOL.
Towing 45 lbs is intense. I don't mind hiking carrying 45+ lbs. But, biking? You're crazy!

I get it. My ex loved biking and tried to get me interested. Bought a nice bike for $400 (early 90's dollars). Tried it but hated it. Skinny little tires with 90lbs felt every pebble it rolled over. Had to walk it up steeper hills, etc. etc. Donated it to a charity silent auction about 15 years ago. Looked brand new as it had been used very little. Sold for $10.

Bought a Rad Rover in the spring of 2020 and love riding it.
