The tech is changing so fast in another year you might say the same thing given the next year's promises. I say a miss a year of riding? No way!
how true ... buy anything electronic / tech and its a dinosaur 6mo. later. Buy a bike with good bones and great components and if / when it needs a new battery and or drive components change em out ,,, ive been riding / updating a mtn bike for over a decade ... the 29s have come along but the bones on my ol bike are still solid.
Here's what Musk and Tesla are saying. The new cell has twice the capacity and they claim it costs less. They say the cost for a kWh, just for the cells, is around $100. For something like an ebike, the battery cost is becoming trivial, but you have to wait for the technology to move into the general marketplace.
I wouldn't wait. I've decided to push my packs pretty hard because I don't think these packs will be worth much in 18 months, anyway.
I think I read somewhere that a Tesla gigafactory will start producing these in a couple months or so! We'll just have to wait and see how long it'll take to trickle down to ebikes.
