440lb (max loaded weight) at 28mph? not in our bike lanes please, thank you! i think that’s really pushing the boundaries of what’s safe to be under someone’s “control” in a 4 foot wide strip of pavement, up and down steep hills, frequent intersections, etc. it does look like a well engineered and specified bike for a less urban environment.

You wouldn't be able to accelerate that cargo e-bike to 28 mph even partly loaded. People often think the 28 mph is the promise. It is not. It is just a theoretical motor assistance speed limit.

yeah, i wonder about the specs listed in the review. only 250w, but 80nm and class 3? it'll barely get you up to 20mph!

To me the worst thing about ebikes is weight. My Yamaha powered gravel bike is 41#, two Tongsheng mid drive conversions are low 40s# and I honestly hate the weight. I ride without assist except on long or steeper grades or into the wind or when I'm plain tired so usually I'm just riding a porky/heavy bike which detracts from the fun of riding. I'm waiting on delivery of a carbon fork to put on a old bikes direct hardtail mountain bike which should drop the wt to 26ish pounds. I'm hoping I can do my usual hilly rides on that bike instead of one of the ebikes.

Not necessarily. A PW-X2 equipped unrestricted Giant Trance E+ can reach over 35 mph on the flat if ridden by a strong cyclist who can get on high cadence. Proven fact. Yet not the cargo e-bike!

I think they look capable & comfortable. You ever ridden a MTB or cruiser home with 60 lb groceries scraping the back tire all the way? *****y frames with not enough lateral support for a basket. Front tire skids sideways with no load on it. Been there, done that.
Or do you get your groceries & beverages with a car? Burn down the forests, flood the cities & towns, kill the polar bears. Cars are obsolete. Cargo bikes are the wave of the future. I use my (wife's) car only for vacations. bus service is too bad here to tour more than one place a day. Walked 12 miles to see CO national monument on a Amtrak vacation. Tour van wouldn't run on Thanksgiving weekent.
This giant bike has all the bells & whistles. I've equipped mine like that & I'm up to 94 lb without supplies. Mschwett, I've had mine up to 35 mph downhills with 80 lb cargo. Only on good pavement, though. Weight on the front tire adds to stability.

I often do grocery shopping with my Vado or Lovelec. The point is I probably do not buy as much as you do (44 lbs is enough). The only e-bike of mine that is not adequate for grocery shopping is Vado SL (it is too delicate) but I still manage smaller shopping with it.

Perhaps we do not buy as much as Americans do.

i'm with @indianajo on ending the car-hegemony. i can count on one hand the number of times i've driven a car to a grocery store this year, maybe even this year and last. but i/we tend to stop at the market on the way home from work or dinner or playgrounds or school or wherever, and get relatively smaller amounts of stuff. everyone's practical circumstances are different. i'm sure these big, heavy, heavily loaded bikes are well engineered, the idea of suddenly stopping from 20+ mph on on a 20% downhill grade when an idiot driver pulls out of a driveway or intersection suddenly gives me pause. well, more than pause! which reminds me, my commuter bike needs new pads, rotors, or a bleed i think! today it took almost full pressure on both levers to slow me down on my way to work.

I've got a diet soda habit. Nasty, the bottles go in containers to 3rd world countries where they are thrown into the rivers and float to the center of the Pacific.
I thought many Europeans drunk as much beer as I do soda. But they buy it 1 stein at a time at the local, probably. I can't stand to watch the ball games and talk about sports teams at the local. As a native AM, after 1 beer I have nothing to say. Not recreational to me, alcohol is a sleep drug.
Mschwett, out where I hit 35 mph the only crossing risk is deer & dogs. Maybe hawks & eagles, I dodged one once.

Why?
My eBike has a well controlled motor as I select the power level driving the CR fast.
I pedal effortlessly at my own cadence, Thank You very much!
