Misleading warranty for all time based warranties ??

If the product, ex. ebike has a downtime due to a broken part, shouldn't the warranty period be extended with the additional time of how long it took to get the product fixed ??🤔

Ex:

-2 years warranty, battery goes bad, takes 3month to get replacement;

Newer warranty after the issue:

- 2years+3months (the downtime)

And the same for whatever issue or time, whether it is 2 days or 6months !

Does any company offer this ? For those who offer limited time warranties. But probably there is no ebike company that gives lifetime warranty.
For some clothing brands or other brands , there are companies who offer lifetime warranty.

Makes sense ?

I don't think what you suggest is common. Companies are bound by the terms of their written warranty. If your system is written into the warranty, then that's how it goes.

My experience with warranties (non e-bike) is that they expire as scheduled, and there is not any extension for time, trouble, and or lack-of-use.

Meanwhile, my ebike's maker seems to provides service beyond the warranty period, depending on the situation. I know someone whose frame broke when the bike was several years old and they sent him a new bike, for example. We're beyond the warranty period and my local dealer just did a battery repair (replaced the bridge) and didn't charge me. I've also found them to be generous with loaners when I've needed a warranty repair (I commute on my ebike).

A good company will be generous, I think, within reason, and try to make sure they have a customer who feels they have been treated fairly and well. If you are not happy with your ebike maker's service, I suggest you vote with your feet and buy from a company with a good reputation for after-market service. I know that's tough in a young industry, but there are makers with more history under their belts, and riders who are glad to share their positive experiences. :)

You are assuming product warranties are really full warranties. My lifetime 50’ garden hose failed. To file a claim I have to ship it to them for their inspection. That means spending $15 to ship a $30 hose for possible replacement. Similar making a claim on a 10 year warranty on a mattress. It will be prorated, and you’ll end up getting $100 off a new mattress. Lifetime warranty on a replacement muffler costs me $100 every time it was replaced. Always a pipe or clamps need replaced. Yet get a warranty on an eBike to give you some assurances it won’t fail out of the box. Expecting an open ended warranty on time is asking too much. I’m sure the fine print says from the date on the invoice.

I would like it to say this: For the length of time when your ebike is not operating due to an issue that is covered by the warranty we will extend the x years of warranty with the additional time of which the ebike was out of service.

I wonder how a good lawyer would look at this logic and what would be their view ?

From my point of view, it should be how i mentioned it.
That's why with a quality car, Bmw/Benz they offer a curtesy car when the original one has issue and is within the warranty time.

I want a curtesy ebike when the ebike fails and is not repaired within 1day ! Specilaized, Trek, Giany, Yamaha, Rad, Juiced are you listening ??

Some bike shop owners actually help their customers that way. Hats off to them.

Precisely why I back off and continue building my personal rides. Known components, access to parts, pro built battery, and known to be extremely reliable motors. I don’t mean on the cheap.
We don’t see a lot of Grin customers looking for help.

Some companies have gone beyond this and extended original warranty when an issue became apparent - eg specialized extended the brose motor warranty out to 4 years when they recognised a software issue caused premature failures on 2019 bikes.

Other companies claim " lifetime warranty" on selected parts, eg frame / wheels - but that is limited to original owner, and even then they have clauses like " normal product lifetime" so they don't have to stock 10-15 yo replacement frames.

Personally, I'm more interested in a rolling warranty . If a part is inherently faulty and fails within an unreasonable time, the replacement part should have a warranty equivalent to that part when it was new. Giant, for example, do not offer this. If they replace the motor 1 day before the 2 year mark, make sure you ride it straight away!

Actually there are a few companies that have a lifetime warranty on the frame :). This whole waiting forever to get things does change things and should modify the warranty in a lot of cases.
