Matt Paint & Washing

Hi there,

My first post in the forums, and thanks for having me :)

I have recently taken ownership of a lovely Cube Cube Reaction Hybrid Race 500, and so far, the bike has been pretty good (the bike dealer was fantastic).

The reason for my post though, is because I am concerned about the fact that it has a matt paint job. Is a matt finish less robust than gloss?

I'm also worried that when cleaning the bike, water could find it's way down the tube in the bottom part of the battery area. My OCD is kinda going mad, so if you guys could enlighten a complete noob...I would be most grateful for your input.

Kind regards

Dom

I don't EVER wash my bike. If you really worry about it, wax it when new and rub it down with a diesel fuel soaked cloth occasionally. Mineral spirits is also acceptable. I used turtle wax on my bike the day I pulled it out of the box.
BTW I use 5 w ATF type F or hydraulic fluid SUS32 to oil chain, handlebar & seat stem & screws, calipers if rim, shifter pivots, cable ends, crank, wheel axles, every two weeks. Twice a year I turn the bike over and put oil in the hole in the crank housing. My pedals required disassembly after 18 months to drip oil down into their bearings when one started snapping. My chains usually last 8 years since I don't have a mid drive.
Don't use dexron compatible ATF or the expensive hydraulic fluid approved by Case, New Holland, John Deere etc. Neither use automotive motor oil. These fluids contain detergent that sucks water out of the air and applies it to your steel. Turbine oil & 3 in 1 oil are expensive non-detergent substitutes.
