Not being able to order the Aventon Level replacement brake pads for some time, I ordered these replacement pads from Amazon.

I have been using these substitute pads for a few days. They do not come with, and do not accommodate the spring clip like the stock pads, but the Brakes are magnetic and these pads fit and perform perfectly.

Hi Tom. So are you saying that the calipers are magnetic and hold these pads against them, or are the pads themselves magnetic, and they self attach. When I did a stock regalement of pads with the ones I bought from Aventon, I know that my Level's stock calipers are not magnetic, and until the spring was installed, the pads flopped around. If these pads themselves are attached to magnetic bases, and they fit, then boom...problem solved..

Hi Bockrock, it appears my calipers are magnetized. They draw the pads into the caliper and it is fixed in place. The Pads themselves are not magnetic. Same thing on my Fat Bike with JAK Disc Brakes. Brake calipers are magnetic, pulled the the brake pads right into place. That is very odd that your calipers were not magnetic.

Brockrock, did you verify that your calipers were not magnetic? Is it possible that the base material for the pads was non-ferrous?

The stock pad bases are ferrous, and when I remove them, I remove the clip first, and the pads then flop freely around. The only plausible reason why the pads you linked above would work seems to be that those pad bases are magnetized. The other reason I think this may be the case is because there does not seem to be any other way to secure them in the caliper via a clip of some sort, and they need to be secure against the caliper to avoid inefficient braking and uneven wear.

Yeah, I tested the pads themselves after you asked, just to be sure. The pads are not themselves magnetic. Very strange.

I was able to start a "chat" session today with Aventon and asked about brake pad for the Level, and asked for third party recommendations. Tim said, the Clarks VX828C should work. Has anyone given these a try? I noticed they use "organic" material, and I am wondering if this will help with the grinding sound. T.

I have no experience with Clark’s. But I switched to the organic Tektro pads on my Pace 500. The organics did seem to help somewhat, but the grind is still there. I hope you have better results than I did.

I just gave up and decided to…..“ride the damn bike”!

Update on the Clarks break pads for Level. After 100 miles, they are much quieter than the stock pads. I had a local Bike shop install the pads, since I broke a rear wheel spoke, and I like them so much better than stock pads. No grinding. Also, bike shop discovered Aventon had shipped my bike with an extra rear wheel spacer/washer that was causing gear change to 1st or 2nd gear to misalign. All better once spacer was removed. Z.

Thanks for the update! It’s good to know there are other alternatives.
