HOW TO BED YOUR EBIKE BRAKES

I listen to them with interest and compliment them when appropriate. A glass of wine often speeds the process.

I never bed my brake pads. I just ride it normally and the pad will gradually gain the grip. It still stops normally and doesn't feel dangerous or anything.
Yeah. Sometimes it’s not needed and other times it’s not. Best to just do it and not have to worry about it in my opinion.

The guy in the video is generally giving you a good process, in particular not letting the bike come to a stop in between the bedding pulls. But letting the bike sit in between runs is a mistake. the pad sitting over the hot rotor creates a hot spot and that means uneven cooling. The rotor can warp at that spot. Instead pick as part of your bedding process a long run where bedding ends at the far side, and you putter back to start without touching the brakes. Let them cool on that slow roll back.

I ended up doing a writeup on this. I am a mod on a few ebike groups and brake issues that can be solved by bedding come up a lot. Not too long ago, I got caught out in a thunderstorm and got absolutely slammed. Brakes became noisy as hell and the solution was to re-bed them. Shut them right up.

That writeup goes to an extreme on bedding (black and smoking rotors) but honestly I have had longer lasting results by going overboard than by being gentle.

I saw the Park Tool tutorial on brake bedding and interestingly they recommend you start by watering your cold pads lightly to create a slurry that transfers to the rotor during the process.
