Hello from France

A year ago I scrapped my car and replaced it with a Brompton folding M6R eBike . I guess most people would choose this bike for going to work in cities, but I'm 73 and live in a small, mountain town in France and my purpose for buying the bike was for getting into town to do my shopping. The bike folds so small, I can take it Inside the shops with me, wherever I go. Not one single shop has complained - they just look at me quizzically or stop to ask me where I bought such an incredible thing! I haven't bought a chain for it, as it never leaves me and therefore there's no risk of it ever getting stolen.

Please see my fuller review and photos of the Brompton eBike in the Brompton section of this site.

Welcome to the site.
I also do without a car, except for annual vacation.
I'm happy to cable my bike to the cart rack outside the grocery with a 12 mm x 7' cable. 2 years, so far so good. I used a cheesy 3 mm chain and $3 lock on my $75 mountain bike, that didn't tempt any thieves either. This bike cost $2900, worth the $40 cable setup and the $80 bag to carry it in. Perhaps because there is not a lot of resale value to a "girl's" bike in a "girl's" color. I carry 30 kg of groceries/supplies sometimes, I really don't want to carry the bike too. I realize people in France shop daily, but there are a lot of foods for diabetics not available within 40 km of my summer camp. 30 kg supplies last a week.
